I remember reading some article by Lyndon H LaRouche Jr a while back about how only building the Eurasian land bridge could save the world.

Do people have any idea what Chukotka is like? This reminds of the complaints last year about the US budget, in which several million where alllocated to build a bridge between two uninhabited islands in Alaska.

Anyway, pointless for Russians. if they're going to build lot of extra rail capacity, it makes more sense to build to Vladivostok or Nakhodka so they can sell to all the Pacific Rim countries via sea, rather than limit themselves to the US and Canada.
