Baltimore is known for it's assholes. Ask Johny Waters - they sing

Mr Jones (Mr Jones), Friday, 19 May 2006 06:12 (nineteen years ago)

While this sucks 'n all for the couple...

* they did run a stop sign. Never cool (unless the stop sign is surreptitiously hidden.)
* people should know better than to try and overstep another police officer's asshole-dom in front of him/her
* MAPS, people! There are two of you in the car. One of you go to a gas station and buy a local map, or ask directions from the guy or gal inside. The passenger writes down directions, and then tells driver how to get to 95. Not rocket science.

Parts of Cherry Hill = open-air drug market. That explains this, I think, even if nothing would excuse it.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Friday, 19 May 2006 09:30 (nineteen years ago)

Where is AUNT IDA when you need her!

Mr Jones (Mr Jones), Friday, 19 May 2006 09:36 (nineteen years ago)

Can someone who knows about these things explain to me how that law works - the 'trespassing on a public street' one?

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Friday, 19 May 2006 09:43 (nineteen years ago)

All of Baltimore of still owned by Lord Baltimore

Mr Jones (Mr Jones), Friday, 19 May 2006 10:11 (nineteen years ago)

Sir Lord Baltimore?

Is it bad that I got really happy to see that the couple this happened to was white? Although if they'd been black, it wouldn't have been deemed newsworthy.

Dan (Very Little Sympathy Here) Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 19 May 2006 13:01 (nineteen years ago)

It wouldn't have happened to a black couple with Maryland license plates, I think.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Friday, 19 May 2006 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, probably not!

Dan (Reverse Racial Profiling!) Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 19 May 2006 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

fucking pigs

kephm (kephm), Friday, 19 May 2006 18:36 (nineteen years ago)

The drug-market thing does seem like the obvious explanation.

Funny: I was just thinking about that sort of thing the other day, because I saw someone make a foot-to-vehicle drug transaction, and then, when a police car came by, do a whole broad stage-wave pointing-finger thing -- "yeah, so you just go straight down to 59th, you can't miss it."

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 19 May 2006 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

I don't get the drug market thing. When you just bought your eightball, do you then flag down the nearest cop for directions?

I think the cop was just being an asshole for pleasure.

milo z (mlp), Friday, 19 May 2006 19:04 (nineteen years ago)

Well yeah, approaching the cop should have been a good tip-off on that front. (Ha, the last time I asked a cop for directions in a bad neighborhood, his response was like "go that way and whatever you do DON'T STOP AND ASK ANYONE ELSE FOR DIRECTIONS.")

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 19 May 2006 19:06 (nineteen years ago)

people should know better than to try and overstep another police officer's asshole-dom in front of him/her

Fuck this. I hate that we have to supplicate to cops in this way.

MAPS, people!

Isn't it possible that they didn't realize how lost they were until they found themselves where they were?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 19 May 2006 19:07 (nineteen years ago)

It will be interesting to see what comes of this, maybe it was just a crappy cop

Mr Jones (Mr Jones), Saturday, 20 May 2006 02:07 (nineteen years ago)

tell 'em, eazy

((((((DOPplur)))n)))u))))tttt (donut), Saturday, 20 May 2006 02:13 (nineteen years ago)

I just google mapped cherry hill in bmore - that is EXACTLY where I got lost about a month ago. oops. was looking for a shortcut downtown off 295 & suddenly thought, hmm, this part of town looks real shady.

I'm glad I just pulled a few illegal u turns instead of asking anybody

dar1a g (daria g), Saturday, 20 May 2006 03:11 (nineteen years ago)

be careful where you turn, around though! last week around here a couple was lost and turned around in someone's driveway and a guy came out of the house and opened fire on them! and this is in hickland, not a "bad part of town" in a major city!

(still looking for news article to link)

tehresa (tehresa), Saturday, 20 May 2006 03:30 (nineteen years ago)

it seriously bugs me that anyone's reaction to this could be "well, sucks to be them, but really they should've known better!" i mean, fuck that! cops aren't hired to abuse random citizens for no reason. this is the united states, not fucking burma! sure, they ran a stop sign (a STOP SIGN! not a red light! since when does running a stop sign warrant anything more than a ticket?) but anyone can get disoriented enough to do something like that in a strange neighborhood.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Saturday, 20 May 2006 03:35 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, there really is no excuse for the asssholeness, especially if they approached the cop!

tehresa (tehresa), Saturday, 20 May 2006 03:39 (nineteen years ago)

i think both parties fucked up here. lol baltimore

guess papers (eman), Saturday, 20 May 2006 04:00 (nineteen years ago)
