Anyone read anything abut how computer-aided design has affected the craft of book design?

might have helped with spelling, for instance.

it made it a lot easier for morons to make illegible books

Do you really mean CAD?

That's usually associated with engineering and manufacturing. Maybe DTP is more relevant?

i am in the middle of drafting theater plans for my design and planning final. i am creating a "theater" (mine is more of a space for multidisciplinary stuff and experimentation whatever) in a space of 44'x100', to seat 120 and include lobby, theater, and backstage/shop/storage/load-in/dressing room area. right now i am working on drafts in 1/16" scale bc it is easiest size paper to work with but it is fucking ridiculous.

feet and inches!

best of luck w/ your work

final product to be in 1/4" scale which will be easier. but it's a giant piece of paper lol.

jbr that looks really cool and i dlded it but i need overhead view, not 3d. and i have to do a section drawing at some point but i think learning the software would take me too long at this point! nose to grindstone blergh.

Google Sketchup sounds perfect for this job.

Freehand would also be quite good for the 2d end.

if someone wants to, they are welcome to make 3d renderings of my theater that i can submit for extra credit! or... make an exterior facade design (optional) - id on't have time/skillz to draw this.
