"Do you believe in the fellowship of man?"

In O Lucky Man there's a scene where Malcolm MacDowell is captured by some secret government types at a nuclear plant and interrogated. They ask him "are you a member of the communist party?" and also "do you believe in the fellowship of man?" to which they add "think carefully."
What is the fellowship of man? Should I believe in it?
