ok it is now more than 28 hours after i updated and archived Radio Free Narnia, and i know from responses world-wide that YOU guys can all access the updated version — plus i could too, at work — but at home i am still getting the old one. Does anyone have any idea why?

(this is a REAL QUESTION, and in no way a pitiful attempt at self-promotion sheesh)

mark s, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

refresh it? Might work (errr I'm not trying to be patronising).

Try refresh, Mark by the way check the http:// link on Radio Free Narnia to my weblog.

OK well refresh worked which makes me look like an idiot BUT when RFN was my home- page — which it was until abt an hour ago, when i put google there instead — it DIDN'T work (i must have refreshed it abt 30 times last night and this morning); is there any reason for THAT?

mark s, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

martian the link works fine, was that what you meant?

mark s, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mark viewing it in Internet Explorer, there is a space between the last forward slash // [and] djmartian.blogspot.com/

clicking on the link - displays this

http://%20djmartian.blogspot.com/

(therefore not linking to my weblog)

DJ Martian, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

oh ok, it works in netscape you see, but i shall correct it all the same

mark s, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mark your right it does work with Netscape as I have just seen you test the link on my referral stats. But not Microsoft IE.

p'rhaps something to do with your cache settings? like is 'check for new versions of page: never' ticked or something?

clive, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This may well be a really dumb suggestion but Mark have you recently installed a new version of IE or changed some settings? There is an internet options setting where IE can be set to automatically look for updates when loading a page. If this is not enabled, IE may load an already-viewed version of the page from the temporary internet files folder on your hard drive rather than getting the 'live' page from the server. Sorry if I've misunderstood the complexity of your problem.

well i don't use ie at all, david, i use netscape (which i prefer, out of habit), tho it may well have the same drawbacks, and the problem seems only to manifest when the blog is also my homepage: yes i assume it IS some kind of cache thing, and i'm wondering if anyone knows what... chucking out everything in the cache folder makes no diff

friendsnet also claims i can receive no cookies, which is not how the preferences are set

in two weeks i will have a nice new imac and all my problems will be at an end, hanle y why are are you laughing?

mark s, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

iMac, heh.

Sometimes, you need to hold down the SHIFT key while refreshing to clear out your memory cache - sumbitch browsers are like packrats, and they're often unwilling to unclench. I'd recommend you monkey with the settings in your browser, but you're getting one of them there disposable computers, so you won't have to worry about such things anymore.

(I hope you're getting one of the painfully stylish ones, Mark.)

It's option on Macs, not shift.

Josh, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This and the problem with cookies perhaps indicates that something is corrupted and you should uninstall and reinstall Netscape. But as you say you're getting a new one so why bother.

David Inglesfield, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

problem with cookies also happens at work, tho

corrupted? all is corrupted!! man that is born of woman hath but a short time to live and is full of miiiisery

mark s, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh bluddy 'ell I don't know!! Sounds like the blogging web page code has a bug in it. Bet you've got an answer for that as well.

David Inglesfield, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

sorry david, i'm not meaning to be stroppy or anything, your suggestions are actually helpful (if not now then for the future) because they tell me the kinds of things that CAN go wrong; partly why i'm asking tho — which no one is *quite* responding to — is for an insight into HOW these various things actually work, when they do... y'know, the underlying theoretical mechanism etc

mark s, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My last comment had a wry smile attached...
