yes, it's now "oppression water", according to the crusty kid who yelled at the business lady behind me armed with one of the two brands who didn't give her change at the bus stop this morning.

"oppression water"?

bottled water is pretty much all I could drink without getting sick in certain countries.

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 22:40 (nineteen years ago)

both indefensible

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 22:41 (nineteen years ago)

I'd call L.A. tap water physically oppressive at times..

...and I'm not about to ignore Coke and Pepsi being globally oppressive companies or anything, granted.

Still though, the phrase.

Fla. Man in Women's Bathing Suit Arrested
May 30 6:47 PM US/Eastern
Email this story

KEY WEST, Fla.

A man wearing a purple women's bathing suit and carrying a flare gun was arrested after he told a bartender he was going to "get rid of all the dirt bags in Key West," authorities said.

Jeffrey C. Anderson, 55, was charged with carrying a concealed firearm Monday after he brandished the flare gun, which was under a skirt he was wearing, Key West police spokeswoman Christie Phillips said.

The bartender, who was not identified, was working in the downstairs bar of The Bull and Whistle, a popular Key West watering hole located on Duval Street.

"She reported she had seen a man, later identified as Anderson, dancing in the street showing tourists his private parts, and asking people for money when they took his picture," the news release said.

The bartender said Anderson then approached her, telling her he was going to get rid of the city's "dirt bags" before displaying the gun, police said.

Police quickly located Anderson and found an orange 12-gauge flare gun in his possession, Phillips said. He was transported to the Monroe County detention center. It was not clear if he had a lawyer.

Aquafina tastes better than Dasani but in Arkansas they got a bottled water that honors the Razorbacks, it's called Hog2O

it wins

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 23:02 (nineteen years ago)

Well, Pepsi never sold bottled tap water with an Aquafina label on it.

(That we know of.)

Deric W. Haircare (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 23:54 (nineteen years ago)

I can't drink either, they both taste like plastic (or tap water). I've started springing for Evian or Fuji water when possible.

milo z (mlp), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 00:01 (nineteen years ago)

"evian" is "naive" spelled backwards YO!

hi there! i in fact live in fayetteville and i can confirm this, except for one difference (and i'm going to try and use subscript tags to illustrate this textually so my apologies if this doesn't work), it's actually H2OGS. i bought a bottle once, just because. tasted pretty good i guess, clean and fresh with just the most subtle hint of roasted wild pig.

and yeah tags not liking to work here

Did anyone see the "Bullshit" episode about bottled water? They set up a "water bar" at an LA restaurant, with different brands of bottled water with made-up labels, and had a waiter explain to the patrons how the water would taste, and yes, they all agreed, this one is sweeter, etc, except it was all LA water out of a garden hose. Classic.

sinful caesar sipped his snifter (kenan), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:01 (nineteen years ago)

20/20 did a blind taste test of multiple brands of bottled plus tap water. IIRC, evian got the lowest rating, tap water the highest.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:05 (nineteen years ago)

and you'd achieve the same result if you set up a "cola bar" and served everyone pepsi and described it differently (xpost)

Don't they though? I wasn't aware that Aquafina makes any claims to be anything other than "purified water," which basically means tap water that ran through your Brita.

Of course! What I thought of was wine, actually.

sinful caesar sipped his snifter (kenan), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:08 (nineteen years ago)

Of course, I also saw a Mythbusters ep where they filtered cheap vodka through a Brita filter several times, then taste-tested each filtration against top-shelf vodka. One crew member got the order almost backwards, the mustachioed one got it almost right, and the professional vodka taster nailed it. So, like, taste does exist, it's just that most people haven't developed it.

sinful caesar sipped his snifter (kenan), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:11 (nineteen years ago)

unless the people you were serving actually knew something about wine. it being different from cola or water in that people actually spend lots of time seeking out and evaluating and describing and collecting and spending exorbitant amounts of money on different varities, perhaps for very good reason.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:13 (nineteen years ago)

xpost Exactly.

sinful caesar sipped his snifter (kenan), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:14 (nineteen years ago)

I've come to think there is SOMETHING to the wine thing. I went wine tasting recently, and at four of the five wineries it was sort of smile-and-nod "Oh yeah, I do see why this one is more 'fruit-forward'" but then I tried one Chardonnay at one winery that completely pwned all the other wines I've ever had. Also, I ordered a random Pinot Noir at a restaurant and thought it was really really good and then found out it was this winery that's really highly respected and gets tons of good reviews and points yada yada

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:16 (nineteen years ago)

I wasn't aware that Aquafina makes any claims to be anything other than "purified water," which basically means tap water that ran through your Brita.

I should've specified "unfiltered". Coca Cola was supposedly skipping the whole filtration process altogether for awhile in the UK.

Deric W. Haircare (Deric W. Haircare), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 02:49 (nineteen years ago)

Dasani is pretty much the only bottled water where I taste a noticeable difference -- it's noticeably quite nasty tasting, and the indoor pool look of the bottle doesn't help the experience.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 03:13 (nineteen years ago)

one year passes...

Tap oppression water.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 27 July 2007 15:13 (eighteen years ago)

I love that theres actually a "Beverage Digest".

Trayce, Friday, 27 July 2007 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

That 'water' episode of Penn & Teller's Bullshit was pretty funny, but really, way to take out the big boys, Penn & Teller. Yeah, people were ruining their lives, running around with their heads in their asses thinking bottled water was the yum. Glad you set that wicked myth straight.

Abbott, Friday, 27 July 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)

poland spring pwns both of these brands

bell_labs, Friday, 27 July 2007 17:06 (eighteen years ago)

that show was bullshit

kenan, Friday, 27 July 2007 17:12 (eighteen years ago)

see what I did there?

kenan, Friday, 27 July 2007 17:12 (eighteen years ago)

Dasani is pretty much the only bottled water where I taste a noticeable difference -- it's noticeably quite nasty tasting, and the indoor pool look of the bottle doesn't help the experience.

it starts stinking very soon after you open it, like days before the 'spring' waters do. goes for aquafina too. weird.
