This topic has been a source of grief for me and my current girlfriend for awhile now. When I was younger, I when through a phase of excessive dating, usually ending in sex. This went on for a few years, and since then I tried to make a list and sort everything out, but it never seems exact. My girlfriends hate this, with good reason. I think after having a steady girlfriend and "changing my ways", I tried to forget about it all. But that question comes up, "How many girls have you been with before me?", and I hate answering it. I've come to realized my girlfriend likes to know the story, that the numbers and facts of my past allow her to be closer to me. Except my numbers and facts aren't even clear to me. The older I get, the more of that part of my like slips away.

Look: In order to notice the phenomenon that Tuomas is talking about, you have to have slept with at least a certain number of people -- I don't know what the number is, but it suspect it's at least 6 or 7, but maybe less! -- and some of those have to be long enough ago that they're not in recent memory, and the sex you might forget has to be "meaningless" enough that you didn't have much invested in your partner to remember.

So if Tuomas is bragging, he's bragging that he's had sexual partners at least in the upper single digits, that some of them were fairly "meaningless", and that he's starting to get a bit older.

This still might seem like bragging to some people who have only had "meaningful" sex or partners in the low single digits. But, come on: This also describes the majority of ILXors. This is not "I've slept with sooooo many more people than you", it's "I've just noticed this weird side effect from my sexual activities, and I bet a bunch of you have noticed it too, let's talk about it."
