they were showing the disney version in the doctor's waiting room (bad sinus infection gah) and it seemed really icky and fucked up for some reason (also the animation was very bad, the preview for 101 dalmations, which i've never seen, was worlds more appealing). now i've read the story and seen the cocteau version before and i didn't get this total 'WRONG' feel that i got from the disney one so i don't think it's the source material but what, then? and i don't hate disney films either so that's not it.

also i'd like to hear a feminst viewpoint of the domestic abuse connotations (not that i'm not a feminist, but i'm not as dedicated as some others who i think could probably provide a better analysis) (also i swear i'm not actively looking for these negative subtexts in everything i watch, they seem to just jump out at me).

this movie is one of my top ten favorites. i gave an award winning speech on it's relative feminism compared to other fairy tales while in high shcool.

i can reiterate any of those points right now becuase my heart is being pslit in two and i can't see past my tears.

but trust me when i say at one time Belle made me feel strong.

One time I had a discussion about the hottest Disney characters. The straight girls were unanimously agreed: the Beast before he turned into prince form. Not that he had much competition really.

It didn't hurt that...Robby Benson, right?...gave one hell of a voiceover performance.

I must agree with the others: the Beast was much much more attractive before he became human again. Maybe this is what you found disturbing? That beasts could be more appealing than humans...but eh, this just proves it's possible: Disney style.

Yes, the prince was a blond foppish drip so utterly lame that he could give Tom Cruise in the Vampire Lestat a run for his money.

And normally I like foppish drips.
