Get a drive that does both (as my friend Stripey is about to do).

It might make a difference if you have some crappy dvd player, but otherwise makes no differnce to me. I have always have had good luck with dvd+r setting the booktype to dvd-rom. My xbox only likes dvd-r, so I just gave up burning altogether and put a huge drive in it.

Ridata/Ritek is good and pretty cheap from NewEgg - 100 for 33 or 35 bucks.

I've found DVD+R to be slightly more reliable than DVD-R when it comes to successfully burning discs

i use TDK blanks (@ 16x speed) because they're the cheapest in HMV - 25 for a tenner

i've found no difference. dvd-rs are easier to find for me. I use them, most of the time.

My Panasonic DVD player (a couple years old) doesn't play DVD+R but it will play DVD-R. Someone told me that DVD-R tends to work in more DVD players than DVD+R.

my philips claims to only play +R but it played -Rs as well. our combo dvd tv thing won't play any of them, piece of shit.

i think dvd-r might be a little more universally compatible? at any rate that's what i use.
