If so, how was it?

My father in law had a sinus surgery, if I'm not mistaken.

Are you having one?

My father in law did too!

I'll ask my father in law, cheers.

I don't know if I'm having one, I'm trying to decide.

The doctor's prediction: pain.

That was my FiL's reaction -- major serious pain. Cotton in the sinuses. He has had it twice -- the second time was better. I realize that's not a huge consolation, but the more recent surgery was more successful.

I had mine drained once, which was uncomfortable, but the surgery sounds more involved. They are doing a new thing here with an inflatable balloon, like they do for an angioplasty only in your sinuses instead of your arteries, that is apparently quite successful.

I have to get mine drained, and a small bend in my nasal passage straightened (that's the septoplasty), also I think they need to widen the nasal passage a bit to allow easier draining in future.

I guess I'll end up doing it, cos I have been sick for about a year and the only thing that's been found to be wrong with me is sinus infection and slightly deviated septum.

Was just wondering if people had really bad stories about it. The dr said it's a very risk free thing but it does involve discomfort for about a month after. He advised that I do it.

That's a million times simpler than what my FiL needed -- he had/has polyps. Yours sounds less painful. (Phew!)

On the plus side it means a 4 week break from work in July, if I get it done. Tho he said mostly I'll want to sleep.

My mom had something like that, I seem to remember that her sinus cavities were too convoluted and never drained (and also never got cleared of infection cos it was so tucked away even though she was on anti-biotics on and off for a couple of YEARS). I think they opened up some of the walls and vacuumed/flushed everything out, and she had to learn to suck the saline solution up there and swish it around, neti pot-style. We'd probably ALL benefit from that skill, really.

three years pass...

I guess I'll end up doing it, cos I have been sick for about a year and the only thing that's been found to be wrong with me is sinus infection and slightly deviated septum.

Ah if they had told me I would need one (in 2006 when I made that first post), I'd have seen no problem with it. Now? Eh. I hear lots of ppl saying it doesn't help much. But struggling with sinus infections for half a year now... I cried last night, I felt that bad. My septum is also deviated, which I already knew before the checkup as all my life I've had problems with breathing/stuffy noses. But this? Urgh.

Neti pot doesn't help me much.

I need a little sympathy here. :-(
