I have access to T1m H3nman's address - should I go round his house and punch his smug face in?

I could smash his rackets and eat his bananas, taunting him with replica Wimbledon shields?

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 06:49 (nineteen years ago)

Tim Who?

Shadow of the Waxwing (noodle vague), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 06:51 (nineteen years ago)

Give it to Rio Ferdinand so he can play a joke on him.

Henman would probably punch your face in though, I bet he is quite strong.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 07:33 (nineteen years ago)

He can barely lift a racket, and I am a superhero with a gun, look;

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 07:47 (nineteen years ago)

It'll probably come off like some publicity stunt further increasing his profile and smugness.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 07:52 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, he's a nice enough fellow. He comes down and watches our village cricket team occasionally.

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 07:52 (nineteen years ago)

all the time he's sneering at the poor quality of the fielding.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:01 (nineteen years ago)

Henman would probably punch your face in though, I bet he is quite strong.

-- PJ Miller (pjmiller6...) (webmail), Today 8:33 AM. (later) (link)

Well, he'd start out quite strongly, but then would let you catch up and only just lose out in the final moment...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:03 (nineteen years ago)

I know someone who used to have access to B4rry Sh33n3's bank account details.

Beat that, turkeys.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:05 (nineteen years ago)

Tim Henman isn't actually particularly smug though. Are people actually now using 'smug' as a catch-all turn for anything they don't like?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:06 (nineteen years ago)

No. They use "cunt" for that.

Shadow of the Waxwing (noodle vague), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:08 (nineteen years ago)

nothing is more annoying than a smug cunt

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:10 (nineteen years ago)

Golden ticket winners await their fate
Day 20, 23:22 BST - by Neil Wilkes

A 50-year-old "better looking" version of Lea and a professional tennis player are among those to have won golden tickets.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:12 (nineteen years ago)

I find Henman intensely smug.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:12 (nineteen years ago)

What's he ever done to you?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:15 (nineteen years ago)

Nothing specific. This is an irrational, projected faux-hatred the purpose of which is amusement.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:19 (nineteen years ago)

Come on Tim!

Teh HoBBercraft (the pirate king), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:21 (nineteen years ago)

ARGH!

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:21 (nineteen years ago)

You realise that this is how Nazi Germany started.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:22 (nineteen years ago)

No. It started like this:

Shadow of the Waxwing (noodle vague), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:24 (nineteen years ago)

Oops. I didn't realise that was one big jpeg.

Shadow of the Waxwing (noodle vague), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:24 (nineteen years ago)

Just call him Goeballs.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:25 (nineteen years ago)

he lives in barnes, right?

i like henman a bit more now that he hardly ever wins matches, and so won't be clogging up the wimbledon tv schedule as much as usual - thus freeing it up to show lots of players i like! :D

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:27 (nineteen years ago)

I think before you go storming round there with your violent attitude you should stop to consider the fact that Tim Henman might be Chinese.

momusJimD (JimD), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:29 (nineteen years ago)

Why is that last St George's Cross displaying "I hate the English player, my favourite players are American and Croatian". That's not very patriotic.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:29 (nineteen years ago)

why do london old-ilxors hate the word smug?! of course henmang is smug wtf.

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:30 (nineteen years ago)

Anyone for dirty dronerock tennis?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:31 (nineteen years ago)

he lives in barnes, right?

I've not seen him about - he obviously never pops over to Simon le B's for Pimms.

Crimea River (Mark C), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:35 (nineteen years ago)

why do london old-ilxors hate the word smug?! of course henmang is smug wtf.

he's not smug. it's a projection. it's not like he has much to be smug about in terms of professional achievements, relatively.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:36 (nineteen years ago)

but he is smug.

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:38 (nineteen years ago)

it's in his face.

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:38 (nineteen years ago)

i think they fear they may be smug too

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:38 (nineteen years ago)

He has a lot more to be smug about in terms of professional achievements than any of us wasters!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:39 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not old-ILX, I'm not from London, I don't hate the word smug.

Yet I think you are wrong about Henman. He's never struck me as being smug. Give examples of when he has been smug please, that I may be convinced.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:40 (nineteen years ago)

that's why i said relatively.

smugness is in the eye of the beholder.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:41 (nineteen years ago)

i don't think henman is particularly smug. of all the top tennis players only agassi springs to mind as being smug.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:48 (nineteen years ago)

Who will be the first ILxor to appear on the side of a packet of Flora magazine?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:49 (nineteen years ago)

Dunno, but I bet they'd be more smug about it than Henman. Achieving something that you could be smug about /= being smug about it.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:50 (nineteen years ago)

agassi is less smug than henman because he's got some achievements to be proud of.

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:52 (nineteen years ago)

Who will be the first ILxor to appear on the side of a packet of Flora magazine?

back of a milk carton more like

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:54 (nineteen years ago)

You don't actually know what smug means, do you? (xpost to Enrique)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 08:55 (nineteen years ago)

yes but steffi graf has even more achievements than agassi to be proud of, and she's not remotely smug!

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:00 (nineteen years ago)

where did i say graff is smug? she isn't.

You don't actually know what smug means, do you? (xpost to Enrique)
-- ailsa (ailsa.watso...), June 7th, 2006.

yeah. it's not the same as pride.

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:03 (nineteen years ago)

yes but smugness has not much to do with how many achievements one has!

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:07 (nineteen years ago)

Smugness is allowed, but only when you deserve it. In relation to how smug he's allowed to feel, Chris Moyles is the smuggest man in the world.

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:09 (nineteen years ago)

yes but smugness has not much to do with how many achievements one has!
-- The Lex (alex.macpherso...), June 7th, 2006.

it does a bit. if you've achieved shit you can be a bit full of yourself.

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:11 (nineteen years ago)

Doesn't smugness imply complacency?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:11 (nineteen years ago)

johnny b otm about chris moyles.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:11 (nineteen years ago)

In relation to how smug he's allowed to feel, Chris Moyles is the smuggest man in the world.

[cough, cough...]

Teh HoBBercraft (the pirate king), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:12 (nineteen years ago)

is achieving shit like achieving orbit?

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:15 (nineteen years ago)

U2's big hit "Smug (In The Name Of Love)."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:17 (nineteen years ago)

Doesn't smugness imply complacency?
-- PJ Miller (pjmiller6...), June 7th, 2006.

not necessarily, but obviously there's a close relation betweent he two.

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:19 (nineteen years ago)

"Excessively self-satisfied or complacent".

Does not apply to any of the above, with possible exception of Chris Moyles.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:38 (nineteen years ago)

and tim henman, of course.

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:38 (nineteen years ago)

"Come on Tim!"

hahaha. oh god, that brings me back.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:40 (nineteen years ago)

"It's better to be mugs than smug" - Ian Dury Record etching.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:40 (nineteen years ago)

You can't be smug if you've ACTUALLY ACHIEVED something. I mean, no one calls Eric Cantona or Roger Federer smug. No one's going to go "oh, look at him, he discovered the cure for cancer, the smug twat".

The exception to this is Frank "I won the World Cup" Leboef. And he was the shittest player in the team and only got in there due to Laurent Blanc's suspension, so doesn't count.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:49 (nineteen years ago)

surely he was better than Guivarc'h

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:49 (nineteen years ago)

You can't be smug if you've ACTUALLY ACHIEVED something.

yes you can! it's about bearing, poise, that kind of thing.

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:51 (nineteen years ago)

Being a bad winner.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:53 (nineteen years ago)

Cast your mind back to this bit of TV gold...

Sonia: "You're a smug get"
David Van Day: "Whehehelll... I think we can all see, that that's not true..."

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:53 (nineteen years ago)

Is Lily Allen smug or a mug?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 09:54 (nineteen years ago)

To be fair, even if Timbo isn't smug, he has a smug face. Couple that with the crappy clenched fist thing he does ("I have emotions, but I am also IN CONTROL OF THEM") and I say punch the fucker.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 10:05 (nineteen years ago)

What's worse: smugness or envy?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 10:05 (nineteen years ago)

Henman isn't smug because he always looks like he's about to cry.

(Good grief, what have I started?)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 10:06 (nineteen years ago)

Which reminds me (for some reason) has Cliff Richard moved to New York yet...?

And, anyway, no, to answer the thread. What's worse smugness or slapping someone because you don't like their face?

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 10:10 (nineteen years ago)

Or their bank balance, or their life, or their achievements...?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 10:11 (nineteen years ago)

y'know, i used to hate Henman, because he reminded me too much of a certain species of posh kid i knew in Wimbledon, but, eh, he seems okay. the fact that he so desperately resembles Nookie The Bear always neuters any ire he might stir in me.

i am not a nugget (stevie), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 10:54 (nineteen years ago)

can this thread also derail to expose kournikova's address?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 11:05 (nineteen years ago)

You can't be smug if you've ACTUALLY ACHIEVED something

You're having a laugh here, right? Look at Federer! Then you have Clijsters who is the complete anti-thesis of Federer.

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 11:08 (nineteen years ago)

And then there is Chris Martin...

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 11:12 (nineteen years ago)

but chris martin invented apple.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 11:14 (nineteen years ago)

as well as poptimism.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 11:15 (nineteen years ago)

Federer never strikes me as smug.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 11:19 (nineteen years ago)
