...go on then.

I thought Who Framed Roger Rabbit was made mor einteresting by Bob Hoskins having a nervous breakdown.

The entire last half hour of WFRR? is probably one of the most batshit insane things ever put in a mainstream film. The song and dance and melting and that freaky screaming voice etc??? What is going on there?

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

i just recently learned that the whole auto industry public transit plot in roger rabbit ACTUALLY HAPPENED!!!

and what (ooo), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 13:09 (nineteen years ago)

The Straight Dope comes through.

I've stil never seen that movie. I tried to watch it when I had mono & a high fever and was on the meds. All I remember is that I couldn't watch it or Laverne and Shirley reruns because they were annoyingly loud.

Roger Rabbit has a lot of weird parallels to Chinatown.

and Laverne & Shirley

Actually you don't need to make Who Framed Roger Rabbit more interesting. Its a pretty interesting film from start to finish - both as a celebration of 1940's animation fun and how and why that died. These critiques are sometimes subtle : the inappropriate sexualization of Jessica Rabbit - who is a direct conclusion of Bugs dressing up as a female rabbit. They are sometimes implied: Roger being a hyper-active and relatively crude character which does seem remarkably 1980's, and telling NOT ACTUALLY FUNNY HIMSELF. But the most damning critque is in the plot itself, which posits (probably rightly) that these characters have no place in 1980's movie land, they need the framing device of a retro tec thriller to even be given a reason to walk-on.

Well, basically it was a critique of how Black actors were exploited for their entertainment value, but treated as second class citizens both within and outside of the entertainment industry.

Hey, I'm no film buff (anymore) so it doesn't go much further than that...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

that's interesting!

The Incredibles underlying political content ruined it for me...so is that like the opposite of more interesting?

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

i thought roger rabbit the character was actually really funny tho!! that opening babysitting short & the one before honey i shrunk the kids are hysterical

and what (ooo), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

but yeah he crosses the line to 'annoying' in the real world, which of course was the entire point

and what (ooo), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

yes.

Also, Jessica Rabbit, the 'would pass for a non-toon' etc...
