This is some pretty wack fucking shit right here. As if taking up to a third of people's salaries every fucking morning isn't enough. They're doing it to discourage overcrowding apparently. Wish I could just not come into work whenever I felt like it, but sadly I don't just ride around on the train for the hell of it. For fuck's sake we live on a tiny little island and yet it is astronomically impractical and expensive to travel only a few miles to a neighbouring town - and now this? These guys are nothing short of criminals with a monopoly and a captive audience. If you want less overcrowding then BUILD MORE TRAINS MORE OFTEN don't fucking make things even more complicated and expensive than they already are!

FIRST CAPITAL CONNECT ARE A BUNCH OF STEAMING DISMEMBERED FLANGES THAT HAVE BEEN LEFT TO ROT IN THE NOON DAY SUN AND THEN PISSED ON BY JUNKIES WITH HERPES.

Oh, FFS... oh the reasons I hate FCC grow and grow.

MAYBE THERE WOULD BE LESS OVERCROWDING IF YOU RAN TRAINS MORE REGULARLY AT RUSH HOUR, you stupid sods.

I definitely pay more than 15% of my salary towards rail fare. Heaven knows what anyone living outside of London looking for internships/work experience/lower-paid work within the capital is ever going to do now.

These days, I actually walk from Croydon to Streatham to avoid having to deal with bloody Worst Crapital Connect.

I've been considering researching timetables to only use First Capital Connect, because I visit Brighton a lot, and at least FCC don't have a long-running massively racist advertising campaign, which is something.

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 09:44 (thirteen years ago)

what's that?

A day return to Brighton from London using FCC is also much cheaper for some reason (£15.50, versus £24.20 on Southern).

Day return doesn't do me much good - it's more likely to be down to my lady in the evening and back in the morning, as is the case tonight.

xp That would be Southern Railways's Loco Toledo, though he does finally appear to have disappeared off their website.

Ah, sorry. Nevertheless, based on a quick check on the National Rail Enquiries site, it looks like the cheapest way to travel at the times you want is to buy two single tickets, ensuring that you select FCC for the outward journey. A single to Brighton on FCC at around 18:00 or so is a lot cheaper than Southern (£15.40 vs. £24.10). A single from Brighton to London at around 8:00 am is about the same on either service - £21 (FCC) or £23 (Southern).

Dear god how have I come to hate Richard Branson SO FUCKING MUCH that I am glad that someone that wasn't him won a government contract, even if it was the execrable, indefensible WorstGroup?

Ewell West railway station is one of two competing stations in Ewell in Surrey.
