We've got a thread for the picnic and a thread for Sussed - BUT! Who is coming to KARAOKE at the King of Corsica on Friday night? I need somebody to sing "One More Time" with.

Tom, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I may well come along, but I'm not singing. I can't sing in public, my vocal chords won't co-operate, but I'm quite willing to watch you all be silly, hee hee.

DG, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

if only i were in england, i'd be your second. when you come over here, we'll duet on "don't go breaking my heart." you have to be elton.

fred solinger, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm there. I'm there. I'm so there. Me. ME.

And it might be Total Eclipse of the Heart in my round. Either that, or ABBA. I tried SOS in my kitchen last night. Even the cats sang along!

sarah, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It really depends on the progress of this cold I'm working on. I nearly shredded my voice last night on songs that *were* in my range, I can't imagine what the perils of karaoke would do... I really *want* to, tho.

masonic boom, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Duet with me. What you need to know is I have possibly the best singing voice of the Groke-sters plus a paedophile voice which kicks in to make it sound funnay. I suggest some more Elton John (Nikita!!!!) but the KoC has much choice for a discerning punta.

Stevie T has a better voice than me but he is too shy too shy.

Pete, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Where is the KoC by the way?

DG, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you'll hear me singing macarthur park from oz.

Geoff, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have the worst voice of the grokesters but am their official tour gogo dancer. For me karaoke is a battle between the inner exhibitionist and society's oppressive perceptions of what constitutes a good voice. To the disgust of society the inner exhibitionist tends to win every time.

Emma, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I know i cannot sing . It does not matter.

anthony, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So you will be singing Dylan tunes then Emma?

Josh, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Or Cohen.
My version of Chelsa Hotel Saves them.

anthony, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Josh, I will if you can think of a Dylan song I can gogo dance to.

If only I had my own vocoder, it worked for Posh Spice.....

Emma, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

There is a secret unfair gender division at k'oke because John and I (who are as rubbish singers as Emma) can pick limited-range mostly- spoken geezerish songs to do like Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick or Cool For Cats and so get away with it. (Not that I am as sensible as John about actually doing this). But where are those songs for the Emmas of this world?

DG: The KoC is on Berwick Street, Soho, just up from Select-A-Disc. Nearest tube is probably Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus is also quite near. Not that it's been arranged but I would be astonished if we weren't in the Blue Posts on Rupert Street (across Shaftesbury Avenue from Berwick Street, past the Raymond Revue Bar) before that. Karaoke starts around 8.30.

Tom, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is there any crap American AOR on the karaoke machine? I know all of that stuff.

tarden, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That means I must have walked past the KoC dozens of times but never actually noticed it. Duh.

DG, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't worry DG. It only appears on Friday nights with its crew of lost souls. ("The King Of Corsica? There bain't been a pub o' that name 'ere for FORTY YEARS.....")

US AOR - how are you on "If You Leave Me Now" by Chicago?

Tom, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is singing Ronan Keating's Rollercoaster (yet again) really a terrible thing to do? It's just I get these urges I find hard to suppress...

Martin, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Martin - I had it on good authority that you had finalled "nailed" the high notes on 'Uptown Girl'. I hope you don't let me down.

stevie t, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No no no - last time I was there Life is a Rollercoaster got wheeled out about 5 times. Sing some other songs, please.

Emma, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The only Chicago song is "You're The Inspiration". Accept no substitutes!

Dan Perry, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what time are you all at king of corsica? i'm going to fabric tonight (and not back 'oop north til tomorrow) so may drop in beforehand, if i'm ready early enough

gareth, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I guess about 8:30 ish, or whenever we have finished in the other pub. Am I allowed to say which pub? It might be a Team Groke secret. Anyway, it is in a very sleazy location.

Emma, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, no, no, no. That "Hard For Me to Say I'm Sorry" has GOT to be the Chicago song. (Doesn't it have the "rock" ending, too?)

Yo, you NYC-area Lovers - would organizing a karaoke get-together for the weekend of the 11th be an uber-bitch? Are folks interested? Ever since I got bopped in the nuts by my roomy for belting out the theme to _Love Boat_, I've been thinking that karaoke would be an EXCELLENT idea. (Oh, "aching" was NOT a good word to choose, though.)

David Raposa, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"You're The Inspiration " is Cetera solo I think. I prefer "GLory of Love".

Mike Hanle y, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"You're The Inspiration" is DEFINITELY Chicago. It's on _Chicago 17_.

Dan Perry, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would be horribly amused if Emma sang and gogodanced to Dylan's 115th Dream.

Josh, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Proof?

Mike Hanle y, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Here ya go. Also contains a capella classic "Hard Habit To Break".

Dan Perry, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Coulda been doctored.

Mike Hanle y, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Could've... but it wasn't. Search Google for Chicago You're The Inspiration and you'll get a ton of independent verifications.

Dan Perry, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Zenith Of Human Karaoke Culture = Pete and I doing "Butterfly" by Crazy Town.

Nadir of HKC = Alex T doing "Mirror Man".

Tom, Sunday, 22 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

seven months pass...
What is AOR?!

kevin enas, Monday, 11 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
