I am in conflict. I want to read the whole thing, yet I know I would be none the wiser at the end. Reading the first few posts only confirms my suspicions. Did you read it all, Mr Jones?

Or, the important thing about the Wikipedia isn't the articles, it's the paper trail behind the articles.

Are the seriously legions of ignorant who dedicate their time to updating Wikipedia entries? I just don't see it.

No, it isn't. The fact that most resources have no such paper trail is the flaw. The whole method of academic information presentation is based on a model of showing a paper trail, but the Wikipedia does a far better job of putting the actual trail at your fingertips.

!!!
Wiki is ok for basic info but should always be taken with a grain of salt and used in conjunction with other sources. People should question all sources though with a healthy scepticism; this doesn't mean they can't be used, but just that we should be self-conscious about the production aspect of knowledge.
Sometimes a good way of finding more reliable info is to go to google, type in your search category, and add "edu" afterwards.
