acid?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 11 June 2006 19:20 (nineteen years ago)

Some kind of weird flash-frozen ice cream. Not to be eaten alone.

Sons Of The Redd Desert (Ken L), Sunday, 11 June 2006 19:21 (nineteen years ago)

Hmmm. Can they be eaten in the street?

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Sunday, 11 June 2006 19:36 (nineteen years ago)

Well, you're not required to take your pants off to eat them...

The Jazz Guide to Penguins on Compact Disc (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 11 June 2006 19:37 (nineteen years ago)

Oh. That's actually a pity.

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Sunday, 11 June 2006 19:40 (nineteen years ago)

They are flash frozen ice cream that's kept in liquid nitrogen. They're not as tasty as their upstart competitor, "Mini-Melts", which have more cream in their recipe.

THEY ARE THE ICE CREAM OF THE FUTURE BECAUSE IN THE FUTURE ICE CREAM WILL BE SERVED IN TINY DOT FORM AND ONLY BE SOLD AT THE MALL AND COST $15/LB

ath (ath), Sunday, 11 June 2006 20:29 (nineteen years ago)

weird... i went to a graduation party today where dippin dots were served, and there was much discussion re: dd's today -- and now this thread - ! they must truly be the ice cream of the future.

killy (baby lenin pin), Sunday, 11 June 2006 22:09 (nineteen years ago)

They were the ice cream of the future when I was in high school, so I think of them as the ice cream of the past.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 11 June 2006 22:11 (nineteen years ago)

i first had these in manila at least five years ago. i know mcdonalds was pushing them for a while in the US. now I never see them. they were a bit exciting for ten minutes though!

sometimes i wonder what the roast beef sandwiches of the future will be like

ath (ath), Monday, 12 June 2006 01:08 (nineteen years ago)

You know your treat has ceased to be the whatever of the future and is on its way into the past when it gets a spotlight on "Unwrapped" with Marc Summers. "The dots get frozen [weird pause] and carted into a room [weird pause] where they are kept cold until shipping."

I've only ever seen Dippin' Dots at amusement parks. Do they sell them in regular stores?

naus (Robert T), Monday, 12 June 2006 02:28 (nineteen years ago)

they sell them wherever there are idiots

so basically malls, six flagses, florida, raiders games, etc...

ath (ath), Monday, 12 June 2006 02:29 (nineteen years ago)

They were the "ice cream of the future" when I was in elementary school in the 1980s. I used to get them at Opryland. They've been around a long time. One opened up recently in a local mall. They really need to give it up.

wildhoney (wildhoney), Monday, 12 June 2006 02:43 (nineteen years ago)

I really love Dippin' Dots and I especially love their slogan!

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Monday, 12 June 2006 03:46 (nineteen years ago)

Holy shit, wildhoney; you did Opryland as a kid too?!? I spent a whole summer on the floom zoom and another on th' screamin' delta demon...

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 12 June 2006 05:26 (nineteen years ago)

They were invented in 1987, according to wikipedia.

Anyone ever had a dotwich?

(man, it's like there's a wikipedia article for everything nowadays, isn't it?)

StanM (StanM), Monday, 12 June 2006 05:53 (nineteen years ago)

There's a weird Dippin' Dots store on Ninth Avenue and, like, 55th street. I used to walk by that store every day and there's never anyone buying anything.

When the cryo boys finally unfreeze Walt Disney, in order not to disrupt his innards with a too-abrupt temperature change, the first thing they're gonna serve him is a heaping bowl of Dippin' Dots.

Sons Of The Redd Desert (Ken L), Monday, 12 June 2006 22:39 (nineteen years ago)

Forksclovetofu, I was all about the Wabash Cannonball & the Icee stand outside the Screamin' Delta Demon entrance. The Floom Zoom was always our first ride of the day. Ahhh, good times. I used to go at least once every year, & then the Opry Mills mall killed all the honky-tonk fun. Now I get my fun at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

wildhoney (wildhoney), Thursday, 15 June 2006 03:18 (nineteen years ago)

I read that as being rhymed in the voice of Chuck D.

Sons Of The Redd Desert (Ken L), Thursday, 15 June 2006 03:23 (nineteen years ago)

Moonshine Icees!
I had a friend whose dad played in the Opry; he used to drop me and Jimmy off at Opryland every day of the Summer for two years. It was our mall. Good times indeed.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 15 June 2006 04:39 (nineteen years ago)

Remember the CHAOS!?!?!?!

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 15 June 2006 04:39 (nineteen years ago)

I really, really hate dippin' dots. Had some forced on me as a free sample in 1992, and I thought I had cryogenically frozen the tip of my tongue. Awful fucking things. Feh.

Chaos! The pipes on the wall. The booming music. The giant eyeball. I'd forgotten about the giant eyeball.
