Snack Attack!

So, i'm at work and i'm passing the vending machines and there is a woman - who i didn't recognize - putting money in the candy machine. She turns to me, scrunches up her face in a kind of demonic way and then says in a scratchy whisper, "snack attack!". I kept walking. I think I said "Ha" in a jovial way. I almost said something like "I've been there" or "I hear you, sister", but for some reason I didn't want to. I wanted to leave her to her snack. and her attack. I'm just glad it wasn't more serious. I don't even know CPR. She kinda freaked me out.

Sorry, I just needed to share that.

What snack attacked her?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 00:05 (nineteen years ago)

at least it wasn't a big mac attack

Perhaps you should've snatched the kitkat bar or whatever from her and ground it into inedible crud with your heel. Then you could have told her "Thank God I was here, you might have been seriously hurt! Be more careful in the future. Have you thought of carrying pepper spray?"

are all offices/workplaces so sugary? i work in a hospital and it's the most sugary place on earth. people are always pushing birthday cakes and cookie trays in my face. is the whole world run on sugar? i have always had jobs in delis/beer stores/coffee joints and never saw how desk jockeys lived. or nurses. they are hopped up on sweets! of course, i made my living selling all the same crap to people for years on end, so i should have had an inkling.

office/workplaces are just weird. so many archetypes too. i swear that your "snack attack" witnessing has happened to me before, right down to the woman sort of sneering it in and me saying "haha, yeah."

i just had a snack attack but all i had that was snackable were raisins. so i ate some raisins. they were good, but now i hate the word "snackable." also: "munchies." sorry.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 00:38 (nineteen years ago)

i once worked in a hospital - sugar was everywhere in that place.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 00:40 (nineteen years ago)

schanden (ritual), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 00:44 (nineteen years ago)

haha, if i were i doctor, would i really be posting on ilx? i mean, maybe, maybe if i weren't a very good doctor or maybe if i didn't live in land of overworked doctors. i'd probably be a pretty good doctor though.

(i was an editor in a hospital in which there are many offices in which non-doctors work.)

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 00:49 (nineteen years ago)

okay, yeah, i am a doctor, i mean.

I have developed a liking of Ritz biscuits. Plus, they are packaged in a snazzy box, it makes it look like some retro 1950's snack. I am a victim of marketing, oh no!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 3 July 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

I meant crackers, not biscuits, as they are clearly not biscuits.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 3 July 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

ritz are great. their ingredients seem indefinable and almost beside the point. i once ate an entire roll of them, along with huge knifefuls of cheap spreadable sharp cheddar cheese that was so orange it almost glowed in the dark.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 3 July 2006 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

I've eaten rolls of Ritz DRY. Because I'm HARD. And also TOO LAZY to go shopping.

these are a celebrated Argentinian snack. Delicate, powdery filled with manjar...mmmm
alfajores havanna....mmmmmm

schanden (ritual), Monday, 3 July 2006 16:50 (nineteen years ago)

here how to make manjar:
take a can of condensed milk stick it in a pot. Cover it with water. Put the pot on a stove and turn up the heat. Let the pot and can simmer gently for about one and a half to two hours for runny manjar, or up to four hours for solid manjar. Add more water, as necessary, when the level boils down too much. if there is not enough water covering the can it can explode (it happened bef) just mk sure is filled with water i guess. k bye.

schanden (ritual), Monday, 3 July 2006 17:03 (nineteen years ago)

adding the words "runny" and "solid" in front of the word "manjar" has not helped things really.

I've definitely seen a homoginizing effect on people's food choices. Almost any time I wait on tables with 6 or more people, whatever the first or second person order at least 3 others will choose too. It's strange.

like murderinging (modestmickey), Monday, 3 July 2006 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

"adding the words "runny" and "solid" in front of the word "manjar" has not helped things"

really.oh why?
3 hours to get the best consistency. fill crepes with that and you are in front of a Celestino...
