No real purpose to this, just spouting as I haven't spouted for a while.

I had a non-job non-interview yesterday (meeting with a company who didn't have a job for me currently, but may do in the next 6 months, usefully enough), and they really seemed to like me! As a result, they have given me two scripts, one from aseries they're producing and one from a new idea they've been working on, and they want my notes.

I'm scared! It's silly, but all I keep thinking is that I'm not going to give them what they want, or I'm going to come across like a pompous prick, or a clueless pompous prick, and I'll spoil everything. This, in turn, is making me (or I'm making myself believe it's making me) shy away from actually getting the bloody thing done.

So - what methods do you use to motivate yourselves in situations like this? Encouragement appreciated.

Hurray! It's as good as done.

I have an application for a summer program to turn in. It's got 5 essays on it and if they like THAT i'll have to go for an interview. It seems pretty hopeless because it's very competitive but my motivation is 'okay if i don't do this and get into this program then it's going to be all summer at a minimum wage job.' So...er...think of a worse alternative.

THE BEST EXCUSE BEING " I WAS LATE DUE TO HAIR"

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Just envision how it plays on screen and concentrate on what works.

If you don't do it at all you will feel like a bigger idiot.

if anyone has a motivational method then I'm all ears.

I have swore not to dwell in average mark land next term. But then that would mean not doing things the day they're due.

Ronan, Wednesday, 30 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"I have swore" hmmmmm. is that correct? i dunno. doesnt matter i suppose.

Ronan, Wednesday, 30 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Blaming it on hair probably won't work. Mark, just have a go. What's there to lose? You do know what you're doing after all. Don't let it sit there. Procrastination is a great enemy. Personally, I can offer no advice really, because I am crap and am currently ruining what could have been a sucessful university course.

procrastination = it's my wife and it's my life

mark s, Wednesday, 30 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Just do brainstorming for half an hour. Listen to your favourite music. Take a break. If inspiration doesn't hit you, then don't force it. Go for a walk. Then make some notes. Then watch TV.

two years pass...
I AM THE RESURRECTION!

No, seriously, I am back at school and I'm doing homework now for the first time in two years. It's hard to concentrate, and it's - to boot - incredibly surreal.

Crap almighty, I have been doing homework for seven hours now. And it's 1:00, and I can't concentrate for beans, and I have 9 hours of class tomorrow, and I'm about to go friggin' nuts!

I can't concentrate for beans

The beans!! The beans are eating my brain!!

Funny, as I was leaving the Pixies gig at Bumbershoot tonight, I was thinking how cool it would be to be one of the high-school kids I saw talking on cell phones, figuring out the next move. But then I realized this would mean I *would actually have to go back to high school*.

six years pass...

It kills me when people post a lucid, well-written, thorough answer to yahoo answers & c, when the question is clearly a straight crib of some worksheet question posted by a student. Even sadder to see is this happening on an academic website.

Looking Man (Abbbottt), Sunday, 20 March 2011 04:11 (fifteen years ago)

Every single time I would google something to answer a question from my chemistry textbook in college, I would invariably find some post with the question directly take from my textbook – and some stranger earnestly replying with a kind explanation, for free. Why the hell do people sit around answering questions that are clearly people's homewrok, at no expense?

Looking Man (Abbbottt), Sunday, 20 March 2011 04:13 (fifteen years ago)

Abbott I think you have talked about this before!

dayo, Sunday, 20 March 2011 04:33 (fifteen years ago)

Yes I have, I knew I was on rerun even saying it – I am just so baffled by it!
