Oktoberfest

I want to head to Oktoberfest this year but I hate beer. Is it possible for me to go along and find something to drink in the tents that isn't beer?

Any other hints and tips really appreciated, thanks!

Isn't this a bit like going to the Monte Carlo Rally if you hate cars?

She might absolutely love oompa music and sauerkraut.

I have, in the past, displayed a fondness of German sausage.

Lara (Lara), Saturday, 17 June 2006 12:23 (nineteen years ago)

Sausage is gut. Not sure about currywurst though. Bit of a guilty pleasure.

November. Ish. (xpost)

It starts in September, you goofballs. Seriously.

I know that there have been wine tents at Oktoberfest in the past. Still fun.

Maybe Lara should go to Pepsifest.

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 18 June 2006 09:45 (nineteen years ago)

Baby, full fat coke or I'm leaving the building.

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 18 June 2006 09:48 (nineteen years ago)

Apropos of absolutely nothing, a friend of mine decided in the pub last night that we should go to Oktoberfest this year. I don't like beer either. Is there other fun stuff on too, or is it just fat old men drinking beer?

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 18 June 2006 09:51 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, there are hot men in Munich too. I have the smile enducing memories to prove it! I'd quite like that oompa music, the opportunity to wear a dirndl again...!

you say that like fat old men drinkiing beer is a bad thing

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Sunday, 18 June 2006 09:55 (nineteen years ago)

I have a great CD of German drinking songs, which sound like they were recorded by random drunks at the Oktoberfest. It does make it all sound like fun.

What is a dirndl?

thanks google!

Fat men drinking beer = my social life. I could do with a change!

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 18 June 2006 09:59 (nineteen years ago)

Ha! Dirndl = surprisingly foxy, no?

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 18 June 2006 09:59 (nineteen years ago)

Hey DV, will you make me a copy of that CD?

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 18 June 2006 10:03 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah sure. It really does sound like everyone involved in its recording was drunk (which might explain the complete lack of attributiono on the inlay sleeve).

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 18 June 2006 10:48 (nineteen years ago)

Dirndls are hot, Hot, HOT!!!

Yes, Oktoberfest can be fun for teetotalers. It's a big ass amusement park for starters.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Sunday, 18 June 2006 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not teetotal, I just don't drink beer.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 18 June 2006 12:34 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, if you like going on insane looking rides, Oktoberfest is the place to go. I've heard the lineup is smaller these days then ones past, but its still one of the top fairs in the world. A lot of one of a kind spinning rides and portable roller coasters.

I am in love with dirndl girl.

Mmm, big beer glasses.

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 18 June 2006 16:51 (nineteen years ago)

I would like to state, for the record, that I do drink - just not beer. Practically any other alcoholic drink is imbibed with boundless enthusiasm.

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 18 June 2006 20:43 (nineteen years ago)

I drink beer!

Mädchen (Madchen), Monday, 19 June 2006 09:25 (nineteen years ago)

I am now imagining Madchen going into a big tent in Munich and saying "I drink beer!" emphatically to the locals. Maybe in German. "Ich trinke Bier!"

I may have to lie down now.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 19 June 2006 11:17 (nineteen years ago)

In a Dirndl?

Ed (dali), Monday, 19 June 2006 11:18 (nineteen years ago)

Ich trinke Bier GERN

JTS (JTS), Monday, 19 June 2006 11:29 (nineteen years ago)

Why have I never noticed that copious amounts of beery fun coincides with my wedding anniversary? Obvious city-break fun ahoy!

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 19 June 2006 13:31 (nineteen years ago)

funny thing - do the Germans have no sense of camp? Like... all these women in Dirndls and blokes in Lederhosen, does no one register how saucy it all is? Or do they just say "we are wearing our traditional costumes, what is so strange about this?"

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 19 June 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

http://www.spiegel.de/img/0,1020,392946,00.jpg

Traditional German clothing (Trachten) are worn campily by some, seriously (if not crypto-fascistically) by others, but everybody registers that Dirndls are saucy.

You may drink what you want to at Munich's Oktoberfest. The tents are definitely beer-centric, but it's not just all about the tents.

I apologize if anyone feels I have cast aspersions upon them by inplying that they are sisters of Carrie Nation.

What an interestingly timed thread.

mummy wrapped in bacon (nickalicious), Monday, 19 June 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

what is the German for "I eat what I like!". Apparently Schroeder said it once.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 19 June 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

Ergebnisse 1 - 10 von ungefähr 720 für "ich esse was ich will". (0.18 Sekunden)

Colin Meeder (Mert), Monday, 19 June 2006 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

Wenn es regnet, fahre ich mit dem Bus. I'm brushing up between now and September. Why does Oktoberfest finish on 3. Oktober?

Mädchen (Madchen), Monday, 19 June 2006 15:39 (nineteen years ago)

Es haltet, wenn es will.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 19 June 2006 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

Julian Calander

Ed (dali), Monday, 19 June 2006 15:53 (nineteen years ago)

Isn't he the lead singer of the Strokes?

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 19 June 2006 15:56 (nineteen years ago)

That sounds like the kind of name a German playboy might have. "Hello, I am Julian Calander - and whom do I have the pleasure or meeting?"

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 19 June 2006 15:56 (nineteen years ago)

six years pass...

work outing tomorrow. 13€ for 2 maß and half a chicken. apparently the band in the hofbräu tent have learnt gangnam style.
