Someone tell me about this Claude Davis character Sheffield United have just bought. Good buy? Preston seem to be pleased with the 2.5m they got for him.

caek (caek), Saturday, 17 June 2006 12:42 (nineteen years ago)

saviola's up for sale this summer, but... is he actually all that? yesterday aside obv. hasn't really pulled up any trees at barca and wherever else he's gone in europe, does he just need some tlc? the fates of simao, quaresma and indeed riquelme suggest yes

liverpool could do with him in theory.

(this thread should have been called BENNI MCCARTHY'S COMING HOME btw)

rtccc (mwah), Saturday, 17 June 2006 12:43 (nineteen years ago)

Yes I know Del Ass-andro has gone to Real Zaragoza - a midtable Spanish side.

Pompey update, Harry Redknapp has been linked with many players.

Achille Emana [Right Sided Midfielder, Cameroon International]

According to Sky Sports, the South Coast club are about to complete deals for Toulouse midfielder Achille Emana

Apparently Redknapp has drawn up a shortlist of 20 players ! looking to bring in at least 6

2 Strikers
RM

and a full back

DJ Martian (djmartian), Saturday, 17 June 2006 12:53 (nineteen years ago)

Looks like portsmouth are getting played with some of those

duff (duff), Saturday, 17 June 2006 12:57 (nineteen years ago)

These would be two great signings:

Tevez and Torres

Man Utd are after Fernando Torres for 25 Milion !
Tevez will he move to Europe after WC?

DJ Martian (djmartian), Saturday, 17 June 2006 13:04 (nineteen years ago)

another, possible transfer: Sevilla player Daniel Alves to Liverpool.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Saturday, 17 June 2006 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

Rothlisberger transferred his face to the tarmac, presto magix style.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Saturday, 17 June 2006 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

Del Ass-andro

hahaha, oh how quickly they turn!

indie disco dancer, sweet romancer (haitch), Saturday, 17 June 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

RIP Jason Lee, you were totally an integral part of our promotion-winning season.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 17 June 2006 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

yes we've been strongly linked with alves. also apparently dirk kuyt is near enough finalised and craig bellamy may be on his way. as usual with liverpool i suspect none of these will actually happen.

michael wells (michael w.), Saturday, 17 June 2006 20:12 (nineteen years ago)

I would not sign Torres. He would be homesick, like Reyes.

I thought Man Utd had spent all their money for the next five years on Rooney.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Monday, 19 June 2006 07:56 (nineteen years ago)

what's the thinking behind liverpool spending 8m on alves anyway? rafa seems weirdly fixated on making life difficult for steve finnan, and he had a good season i thought. shouldnt he really be concentrating on a left back so he can free up riise and flog kewell, particularly if funds are tight supposedly?

rtccc (mwah), Monday, 19 June 2006 10:37 (nineteen years ago)

you would imagine the torres to utd 'rumour' is just martian parroting whatever he saw on some teletext ad as usual. they did just get 16m for obi mikel tho. even if they sold ruud as well there's still diarra, carrick, steven davis to sign first

rtccc (mwah), Monday, 19 June 2006 10:42 (nineteen years ago)

Chelsea paid £16 million, but United got £12 million (the other £4 million went to his Norwegian club).

I thought Man Utd had spent all their money for the next five years on Rooney.

When they signed Rooney two years ago that was supposed to be the 'next season's transfer budget' blown (presumably meaning 04/05). This is irrelevant now anyway with the club in a very different financial situation.

Teh HoBBercraft (the pirate king), Monday, 19 June 2006 10:53 (nineteen years ago)

Jason Lee is dead? I've been on holiday.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Monday, 19 June 2006 10:54 (nineteen years ago)

Yes I know Del Ass-andro has gone to Real Zaragoza - a midtable Spanish side.

rather than a relegation battling English one? Congratulations to young Andres on making the step up.

Eidur really suits that Barca kit, good for him.

Porkpie (porkpie), Monday, 19 June 2006 10:56 (nineteen years ago)

Jiri Jarosik to teh Hoops

JohnFoxxsJuno (JohnFoxxsJuno), Monday, 19 June 2006 11:01 (nineteen years ago)

the reason why Pompey didn't sign:

Del Ass-andro - it was reported his greedy agent wanted an extra 20% per week on top of the player's wages ! This apparently would have meant pompey paying a total of 38K per week, on the demands of the agent re: player's wage + greedy agent's cut

As Simon Jordan [Crystal Palace] once said, if player wants to pay an agent - it should be paid by the player direct NOT as an extra to be paid by the club.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 19 June 2006 11:07 (nineteen years ago)

Isn't Alves for the right wing, not right back?

I reckon Benitez likes Finnan (who I agree has had a second great season, unbelievable to think Kerr managed to leave him out)

Any news on Gonzalez's permit yet? He looked really good when Ireland played Chile last month.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 19 June 2006 11:14 (nineteen years ago)

yeah god forbid d'alessandro should try to hustle a loutish nouveau riche interpol-dodging millionaire's middling alibi chucking loadsamoney about battling small seaside town club innit martian

rtccc (mwah), Monday, 19 June 2006 11:34 (nineteen years ago)

Sad to see Eidur leave. Think he'll be ideal for Barca, far from the distractions of pies and Ladbrokes.

Very excited about Ballack.

Please god don't let us sign Roberto Carlos.

I see Man Utd are being linked with every combative midfielder at the WC.

Pete W (peterw), Monday, 19 June 2006 12:41 (nineteen years ago)

I thought Roberto Carlos was a done deal.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Monday, 19 June 2006 12:42 (nineteen years ago)

He's still hoping for a new contract at Real (as is every Chelsea fan of my acquaintance). Anybody want to sign Carlton Cole?

Pete W (peterw), Monday, 19 June 2006 12:48 (nineteen years ago)

Pete W - I see we've actually now signed Jarosik! Is he any good? I know he was joint top scorer at Brum last season, but apart from that I know nada.

JohnFoxxsJuno (JohnFoxxsJuno), Monday, 19 June 2006 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, he's okay. Strong in the air, good shot, decent tackler. We didn't actually see all that much of him, and when we did Jose would stick him up front for the last five mins and lump the ball at his bonce. Think Brum liked him though.

Pete W (peterw), Monday, 19 June 2006 13:20 (nineteen years ago)

"Del Ass-andro - it was reported his greedy agent wanted an extra 20% per week on top of the player's wages ! This apparently would have meant pompey paying a total of 38K per week, on the demands of the agent re: player's wage + greedy agent's cut"

Yeah, once you factor in Arry's envelopes, that's a bit expensive.

Jamie T Smith (Jamie T Smith), Monday, 19 June 2006 16:18 (nineteen years ago)

when we did Jose would stick him up front for the last five mins and lump the ball at his bonce.

Perhaps WGS will do the same to take the heat off Dion Dublin :-)

Arsenal defender Sol Campbell is on the verge of signing a £50,000-a-week deal with Portsmouth. (Daily Express)

what's he on at Arsenal now. the same?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 30 June 2006 11:54 (nineteen years ago)

No, a lot more.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 30 June 2006 12:01 (nineteen years ago)

Why is he going to Portsmouth? I thought he was going to Fenerbahce or somewhere to get loads of money and a gently runout in the Champions League every season?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 30 June 2006 12:06 (nineteen years ago)

i doubt he'd be happy abroad. tho i don't really know him that well, to be fair.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 30 June 2006 12:08 (nineteen years ago)

Sol already has shed loads of money.

Maybe he wants a fresh challenge, and 50K is an adequate salary.

If he does sign, pompey are not going to be popular with spurs fans next season - Tony Adams as AM, and the so called Judas Sol in defence.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 30 June 2006 12:14 (nineteen years ago)

but if Sol moved Spurs fans wouldn't give a shit would they? as long as he's not at Arsenal.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 30 June 2006 12:17 (nineteen years ago)

He doesn't look as if he wants a challenge.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 30 June 2006 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

In other big-useless-guys-who-can't-turn news, Wee Gogs is apparently considering sgning Dion Dublin again.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Sunday, 23 July 2006 20:39 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, you wanted them to sign Duncan Ferguson! If they do actually re-sign Dion Dublin, I want it to go on record that all the reasons I gave why he wasn't the worst player in the world and we could have done worse than keeping hold of him were made after being in the pub (one whole pint - but it was on an empty stomach), and I was only joking. Honest.

the petrov/malbranque/sidwell moves/nonmoves are getting protracted arent they?

and i see that hardy perennial, the benni mccarthy to premiership, has resurfaced once again, with blackburn the suitors this time. in the last year of his contract at porto though, so, if porto want to get anything for him at all, now is the time...

It's been rumbling on all summer, but the rumours suggest Ruud to Real for £10.2 million and Carrick to United for £18 million should be confirmed tomorrow. Possibly. Er, not tomorrow, today.

I'll be very sad to see Carrick go. He was my favourite player in a Spurs shirt and almost scored one of the goals of the season against Arsenal. That said, £18m is a bloody good piece of business on our part for a player we signed for a couple of million two years ago, and it's not like we're short on good defensive midfielders.

If anything, it might improve the balance of the midfield a bit more, with a more defensive player (Zokora probably, Davids maybe) sitting behind Jenas. Although I'd still like to see Tom Huddlestone come through and deliver on his promise.

Carrick's role at Man Utd is an interesting one - he's hardly The Next Roy Keane although he could be great spraying passes out to Giggs and Ronaldo. They need a replacement for Scholes now, really. I suppose he doesn't instinctively get forward enough, but has anyone ever tried playing him further forward in a Riquelme style playmaker-type role?

That said, I lolled hard at Spurs asking £10m plus Ruud Van Nistelrooy for him. Cheeky!

If the money goes towards signing Stuart Downing and a decent right-back, I'll be happy. If Man Utd then sign Defoe, I'll be pissed off - if pre-season is anything to go by there's the makings of a deadly partnership between him and Berbatov.

i read that spurs wanted chelsea to continue paying some of duffs wages, after the transfer, so as not to break their wage structure

scholes has, apparently, been in very good form in pre-season.

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink is apparently at Celtic Park today talking about terms and things. Also rumoured, Anatoliy Timoshchuk and Ivayla Petkov (presumably the latter because they'll be spending so much money on lettering for the backs of the shirts for the other two, they can save a bit of cash by attacking Stan Petrov's jersey with a bottle of Tipp-Ex).

Really? That is astonishing. If it's true, we're really milking that whole Frank Arnesen thing.

Looks like Ashley Cole to Chelsea is going through, big shock. Funny how clubs lose their contempt for our dirty blood money when a wedge of it is dangled in front of 'em.

(xxpost) I like Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (and not just because of his name) and Anatoliy Timoshchuk is a good player, he certainly impressed me when Shakhtor Donetzk were humping us
