My Mom will NOT go to the dr./hospital. She has had a stroke and right side is very weak. The feelings have come back a bit tonight but I was very frightened earlier! What should I do?

What Anthony said. Call the hospital and explain the situation to them if you must.

I'm afraid if I upset her it could bring a worse stroke on. She refuses to go.

Does that seem a very parental attitude to anyone else? Both my parents and relatives of their generation seem to have an irrational determination never to go to hospital.

Yeah - just take her there. Say you want to go for a drive with her then drive over to your local Loppytal.

get her to the hosptial gale: point out (nice as you can) that the situation she is putting you in is unfair to YOU! if anything got worse again and she hadn't been checked out by doctors and stuff, think how you'd feel

or at least get a doctor to visit, absolutely as soon as you can, if that's possible where you are

i hope all works out for the best: she is in good hands (that is partly what she is saying) but she must be checked out also

Thanks all You have been a great help, & I appreciate it. I have only one prob. I don't drive and I would have to call the ambulance. If she's no better by morning, I will do it. Thanks again!

This sounds like the first chapter of the Dave Eggers book....

Anyways, I don't know you gale but you seem like a really cool person so best wishes.

Man, do I ever hate Dave Eggers though.

Hope things turned out OK. Thinking of you and your mom, Gale...

Gale, my family has been in similar situations, and it's very frustrating. You are doing the right thing by wanting her to see a doctor!
