Heart Question

I wonder if it possible for a young healthy female to develop a heart problem such as angina. I feel very strange. I have recently begun walking briskly for my health but have been experiencing a pain, a pressure in my chest during exercise. Sometimes like I have swallowed something large and it is blocking my throat. When I stop marching it fades away and goes.

But over the past three days I've felt ill. Hard to describe. I can feel my heart beating all the time. There is a slight pressure. I feel clammy and hot and cold. I have butterflies, I feel weak and I'm finding it hard to eat, sleep or concentrate.

I don't feel as if it is an emergency. I can function and I'm not in any pain.

What would you do?

Go to the doctor. Chest pains should be taken very seriously. Especiialy if its repeatable like that.

I've got some heart problems despite being young and otherwise healthy. There's a history of it in both my parents families, y'see.

Get it checked, it's probably nothing but it's best to be sure. Go to an NHS walk-in centre if you're in the UK, they're much quicker than GPs or A&E and this is just the kind of thing they deal with.

It sounds like an anxiety attack but i'd go and get any chest pain checked just to set your mind at rest.

I don't feel particularly anxious I must admit.

I had a panic attack once before, brought on by sudden and unexpected claustrophobia. It doesn't feel the same and this is quite prolonged.

I've checked, but I don't have a walk in centre nearby.

I will try to make an appointment with my doctor. I don't really have a history of heart problems in my family. My grandmother had angina but she was a smoker for most of her life. I don't smoke.

Most of the resources I have checked on the internet are for people much older than myself. I'd hate to waste the doctors time, my symptoms sound weird even to myself.

Yep go see a doc. They can usually do an inhouse ccg (not as good as a proper one but its a start) and check yr lungs and such. Chest pains are not something to ignore, even if its nothing!

Yes, go. And it may sound strange, but you don't have to be feeling anxious to have a panic attack. The other symptoms you describe do all sound like anxiety, and it can be a purely physical thing with no emotional trigger that you're aware of.

OTOH don't let the doctors fob this explanation on you, make sure they check you for all possible mechanical problems; I don't know where you're based but doctors in the UK (in my exp) have a nasty habit of failing to pursue mechanical explanations if they spot a possible psychological one, feck knows why.

IF YOU ARE FEELING ILL, ASK SOMEBODY QUALIFIED, IE. YOUR DOCTOR. THX.

Sorry, I'm a bit tense today.
