Everything really IS on YouTube. Then again this doesn't seem as monumental as it was made out to be.

Am I missing something?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 17:26 (nineteen years ago)

You kinda had to be there:

Yes -- nothing struck me as particularly out of the ordinary about that clip.

"she had already begun having an affair with her gynecologist, Donald Payne. Payne was a closet homosexual who had recently gone through a bitter divorce of his own."

A closeted gay gynecologist? ("geez pussies really gross me out... *sigh*... NEXT!")

Is that the YouTube clip that only shows excerpts? I seem to recall that the whole version was a little scarier.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 19:11 (nineteen years ago)

the version in the tv movie was a lot freakier.

lavendra diamondheart (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 19:14 (nineteen years ago)

Was it like "The Trip" or something?

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 19:17 (nineteen years ago)

just more incoherent, more dead air

lavendra diamondheart (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 19:23 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, I remember the ruckus over her meltdown. I didn't remember her grim end. That's a sad wiki article.

Wasn't there a female newscaster who shot herself on air? Or am I crazy?

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 00:20 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not crazy.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 00:24 (nineteen years ago)

why the new name?

youn (youn), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 00:25 (nineteen years ago)

Whose new name?

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 00:33 (nineteen years ago)

Who's on first?

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 00:39 (nineteen years ago)

The old Washington Post article linked in the Chubbock wiki entry is a terrifying look at the 70s in terms of gender relations, labor relations, sexuality, and pop psychology. Damn.

Saw Christine last night. Rebecca Hall will surely get at least a nomination. Good period soundtrack: "Tighter, Tighter," "Sweet Cherry Wine," "Laughing," some version of "Everything I Own" that's not Bread.

Trailer looked really interesting. Might try to catch this on VOD.

El Tomboto, Monday, 28 November 2016 04:41 (nine years ago)

I'm more interested in Kate Plays Christine but I doubt I'll have a chance to see that on the big screen.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 28 November 2016 04:50 (nine years ago)

First thing I thought of leaving the film was "The actual footage can't possibly be out there on YouTube, I hope." Happily, no--I looked away during the film, so I don't think I ever would have looked at the actual clip, but I can't say that with 100% certainty. Wikipedia says it exists under lock and key, controlled by the then station manager.

clemenza, Tuesday, 29 November 2016 13:37 (nine years ago)

There seems to be very little footage of Christine Chubbock out there at all. This makes a little suspicious of the Rebecca Hall performance at least as shown in the trailer, which is kinda one-note "we figured it out, guys, she was autistic" to me.
