Hearing a Voice in the Words

Example:

My mom just met the internet. She sent me her 1st e-mail today. It read exactly as she sounds in real life (prim, proper, overly polite). Granted, it was only one line, but I could imagine her saying "David I will be seeing you on Thursday at 12.00" (WITHOUT THE COMMA!) - it's unnerving.

Are there any other folks you know (personally / professionally) whose written words mirror their vocal personas? And how much of this is your projection of their personality onto the words?

There are plenty of people whose e-mails I read that sound NOTHING like the person themselves, for instance - they're stilted, filled with too many exclamation points, etc. Also, I don't imagine, for instance, Ned actually flouncing about.

This is just extremely bizarre. My mom is attempting to e-mail me for the first time in her life today as well. I don't know how it will feel. I've always grown up with this protocol being the total complement of my family. Until I got e-mail from my dad's side of the family last year... that was really strange, too.

Everyone knows that Satan talks like the lyric sheet to a garden- variety death metal album. Which means that Satan sounds like the Cookie Monster (?)

My Mom's emails tend to have a lot of exclamation points, mispellings, and a lack of capital letters. We like to joke that she writes like a 14 year old hacker. "give me warez!!!1111" But really, it has more to do with her not being very handy with the computer or technology in general. A classic Mom moment was when she first got her car phone, and immediately called the house and left a message saying "Guess where I am?!? I'm in the phone!"
