people who make out with their dogs C/D

in the new issue of US magazine there is a picture of nicole ritchie kissing her dog's tongue and it reminded me of this time that i saw this woman in a park somewhere - i can't remember where - with her dog and the dog - it was a really big dog - leaped up onto her and she opened her mouth really wide and the dog just went for her mouth until the dog's tongue was all the way in her mouth and they kind of nuzzled like that for a really long time and i almost threw up and the memory haunts me to this day. i mean, they were going at it! in public!

anyway, healthy fun with man's best friend or get a room already?

(um, i'm not a "dog person", so forgive me if i don't understand the special bond between poop eaters and humans.)

i searched for a thread like this, but i couldn't find one.

also, my sister-in-law brought this boyfriend home for the holidays last year and he spent 3 HOURS picking fleas out of our cat with his bare hands. he was stoned, but still...3 HOURS! personally, i felt it was rude. he could have just said, you know, your cat has fleas, you should do something about that. and we could have said, um, yeah, we know. we have been putting the flea stuff on her, she just has a bad case, you know? so there was this big pile of dead fleas on our kitchen table. ewwwww. i guess i just don't get pet people.

Get that poor cat dipped at a vet.

I have a friend who likes to blow in his dog's nose. He did this in front of my father-in-law who to this day refers to my friend as "The Man Who Blows in Dogs' Noses."

Sometimes when my dogs charge at me and my mouth happens to be open, they might accidentally lick the inside of my mouth. Now, I love my dogs very much, but the only acceptable response to this event is "EWWWW! Bleccchhhhh!"

the cat is okay now.

hahaha, look at the kid's faces:

give me one good reason not to french kiss a dog

ath (ath), Thursday, 29 June 2006 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

Does anything special happen if someone blow in a dog's nose? Does it's ears gets straight up in the air as if pulled by invisible strings?

S. (Sébastien Chikara), Thursday, 29 June 2006 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

it's called a puppy trumpet and despite its popular appeal it's frowned upon by the ASPCA

My dogs, when they can find it outside in bushes, etc, eat cat poop. No way am I letting them lick me in or on the mouth.

Debra Winger and her German shepherd to thread.

I will commence to drop a knowledge bomb. (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 29 June 2006 17:33 (nineteen years ago)

letting a dog lick your face is fine (although i don't go in for that sort of stuff). kissing a dog on it's face is ok too. mouth to mouth - not so good. although i do give dog kissers some credit for just not giving a fuck.

blowing into a dogs nose in pretty hilarious - dog looks totally shocked, bewildered and a little put upon. it's better to cup your hand over the nose rather than engage any direct mouth to nose contact.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Thursday, 29 June 2006 17:36 (nineteen years ago)

i do not get the dog kissing at all. i like dogs, but the whole excessive licking thing, esp on the face... the same goes for cats, and i love cats - but once or twice every once in a while is fine, y'know, as what, a bonding thing i guess? but there it stops. even worse: people who say things to their dog like "come give mommy lickies!" blargh! i enjoy KISSING PEOPLE TAHNK YOU.

rrrobyn sharkattack battleforcenet (rrrobyn), Thursday, 29 June 2006 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

ewwwwww!!!!!! no! people should not get hold of their dogs!
they should get hold of their partners instead! lmso :p

Sugar Karis (Sugar Karis), Friday, 30 June 2006 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

Puppies lick the inside of pack members' mouths, prompting the older dog to regurgitate food into their mouth. It's how they are fed. My theory is that the urge remains, even in us. French kissing.
I don't do it with my dog, though, and I discourage my husband from regurgitating into my mouth.
Maybe when I've lost all my teeth it will have some appeal.

This is even worse than the peanut butter thread.

(xpost: gah, what a sinister use of the word "discourage")

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Friday, 30 June 2006 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

Gah, Dan, I have not seen this PB thread and now I definitely don't want to.

Kissing dogs are almost as bad as giant dogs that try to "dance" with you. I don't trust people who are really into dog kisses.

Abbott (Abbott), Friday, 30 June 2006 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

You are two seconds away from getting the peanut butter thread.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Friday, 30 June 2006 16:43 (nineteen years ago)

Dog kissing grosses me out almost as much as people who let dogs lick their dinner plates.

Duck Rivers (noodle vague), Friday, 30 June 2006 19:16 (nineteen years ago)

puppy kisses on ears are still classic

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Friday, 30 June 2006 20:04 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I love dogs, but keep it below the jawline, k?

Full disclosure: I have known and owned several boxers that would leap up to kiss standing people on the nose. You say 'bad dog,' but you can't help but giggle at the athleticism of the feat and the joy they take in it, so the dogs can probably tell you aren't completely sincere.

Dog kissing grosses me out almost as much as people who let dogs lick their dinner plates.

Neither gross me out as much as people who lick their plates.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 30 June 2006 20:26 (nineteen years ago)

one day the people who make out with their dogs will take over the world & control the airwaves & you'll have to see them on TV all the time, even on the sports highlights

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Friday, 30 June 2006 21:01 (nineteen years ago)

This is why we have to wage a war on terrier.

I never lick my plate in company.

Duck Rivers (noodle vague), Friday, 30 June 2006 21:22 (nineteen years ago)

there is a fair bit of "kissing" that goes on around here but i am the pursued and not the pursuer. my dog is as persistent and opportunistic as a 1950s teenage boy bra unsnapping expert.

estela (estela), Friday, 30 June 2006 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

I know it's not the done thing and all to ask, estela, but how old ARE you?

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 30 June 2006 21:31 (nineteen years ago)

i'll be 98 in september, so it didn't ever happen to me. but i know what went on from watching movies. tsk.

estela (estela), Friday, 30 June 2006 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

98? You don't look a day over 80.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 30 June 2006 21:40 (nineteen years ago)

what a nice young man.

estela (estela), Friday, 30 June 2006 21:51 (nineteen years ago)

Madam, one hopes that at your age we should all enjoy the charm and grace which you wear so lightly.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 30 June 2006 21:55 (nineteen years ago)

plates that have held warm berry pie with vanilla ice cream cry out to be licked.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Friday, 30 June 2006 23:15 (nineteen years ago)

There was an Ann Landers letter once from a person who was trying to get rid of someone who kept "dropping by" at dinnertime. They let their dog lick the dinner plates and then put them back on the shelf. It worked

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Friday, 30 June 2006 23:23 (nineteen years ago)

I'm slightly ashamed to report there was a small pink clean-looking doggie tongue licking vanilla icecream off a plate in this abode just two days ago. But we use a dishwasher, so what is the harm really? we asked ourselves, and finding no convincing answer, proffered the plate. It was a good pack bonding exercise, we are all now closer than before.

estela (estela), Saturday, 1 July 2006 00:09 (nineteen years ago)

M. White is allowed to lick our plates too if he likes as he is a very charming fellow and that is all it takes.

estela (estela), Saturday, 1 July 2006 00:13 (nineteen years ago)

Having read M. White's cuisine-related posts, I can say that I would not hesitate to lick HIS plates.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Saturday, 1 July 2006 00:28 (nineteen years ago)

i read the first reply as "get that poor cat dipped in a vet" and oh my was it ever funny

aaron d.g. (aaron d.g.), Saturday, 1 July 2006 00:33 (nineteen years ago)

I share icecream cones with my cat as in the cat licks it and then I lick it. I guess I'm one of those gross cat people.

Looking through pattern skies (papa november), Saturday, 1 July 2006 03:24 (nineteen years ago)

By all means, give the cat the ice cream... JUST DON'T TAKE IT BACK BLEAH YUCK BARF ETC

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Saturday, 1 July 2006 04:08 (nineteen years ago)

what about select applications of peanut butter ice cream?

not only does it cool, but it's tastey and stickey!

dude, he was bonding with his cat and via this flea-picking also bonding with you. Give the man a break/some love back.

Just kidding. Three hrs is a bit much.

Do not blow air through a dog's nose, it can be harmful. Also, don't give sugar to a dog, his digestive system is very *simple* and sugar is more harmful for him/her than for a human being. He can't digest it as well as us people. I think.

I should say: grandmother to thread. She loves dogs more than people (incl her own kids). She lets the dog - BIG OLE DOGS - sleep on the bed. This is more or less sending the message: you're the boss. And they are.
