Was thinking about seeing the new tour and thought I'd see what the critical opinion here was... and couldnt find anything on search other than the odd mention of douglas adam or on the peep show thread

here's the wikipedia entry for those with no idea what i talking about Cambridge University Footlights Dramatic Club, commonly referred to simply as the Footlights, is an amateur theatrical club in Cambridge, England, run by the students of Cambridge University and now also the Anglia Ruskin University (formerly Anglia Polytechnic University). It was founded in 1883.
It grew in prominence in the 1960s, as a hotbed of comedy and satire, and continues to produce the regular, and very popular Smokers at the ADC Theatre; informal mixtures of sketches and stand-up.
It also produces regular plays and sketch shows, such as 2004's Daddy's Dead and the Spring Revue Cracking Up, as well as the tour show, Beyond A Joke. The current Footlights President is Tom Sharpe.

oh we're calling it 'anglia ruskin university' are we?! i'm sure it's been through at least three name changes since i lived there.

i wouldn't know if it snobbish; it's probably a clique; and obviously it's had a decent strike rate. perhaps it is interesting, if this sort of thing interests you, that while cantabs generally have a reputation for being er, well, boring and liking SCIENCE and that, they do better at the comedy than oxford, which intellectually speaking has a more eccentric reputation. cf cambridge: dry and windy; oxford: damp and misty.

blame wikipedia not me for inaccuracies...

i spose its probably no more clique-y than any university society, but it definately seems to have done quite well, but then cant imagine they're too many competing societies around the country

i don't think the oxford revue has done as well. iirc they had richard curtis and helen fielding.
