The new season kicks off next Wednesday, the 12th of July! I'm so excited! I doubt it'll live up to Season 2, but here's hoping...

Designers and Models:

Bios:

This cast seems a lot more accomplished than prior casts, which is awesome. My early favorites are:

1. Malan Breton
2. Alison Kelly
3. Kieth Michael
4. Vincent Liberetti
5. Kayne Gillaspie

My hate this season will be directed towards:

Stacey Estrella. Why, you ask? Because she said this:

“If I win, it will help me build a significant brand awareness in my target demographic while also providing seed capital to build a multi-national fashion house and investment firm.”

*rolleyes*

The models are BORING BORING BORING. Except Moon.. she's gorgeous.

So anyway, who else is excited for PR3?

Also, apparently they've changed the sponsor from Banana Republic to Macy's. Thoughts? Is this an upgrade or a downgrade?

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 23:57 (nineteen years ago)

Who'll be the token "you're kidding, he's straight?" guy?

milo z (mlp), Thursday, 6 July 2006 00:13 (nineteen years ago)

I think Banana Republic's "look" is kind of boring, so maybe switching the sponsor to Macy's will give the designers more freedom to make interesting looking clothes. Although, it was kind of neat to see what the designers came up with when forced into the Banana Republic mold.

I want Michael Knight to win because his name is Michael Knight.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 6 July 2006 00:38 (nineteen years ago)

macy's was probably willing to give more money & promo than BR.

mts (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 6 July 2006 00:45 (nineteen years ago)

where's daniel franco? i want to see him being awkward and sexually ambiguous!

molly d (mollyd), Thursday, 6 July 2006 02:45 (nineteen years ago)

I stumbled onto season 2 by accident, and it became a guilty pleasure for me. I loved seeing the preasure of trying to be creative under a deadline. I'm not sure I'll watch from the start. Maybe I'll wait for marathon showings later on. I just have a feeling the cast will be all caught up in trying to make names for themselves by acting outrageously. I hope I'm wrong about this. The show is well run, and they do audition for talent, so...

Lol. I'm sure he'll make a guest appearance or something.

Jimmy Mod: NOIZE BOARD GRIL COMPARISON ANALYST (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 23:20 (nineteen years ago)

Malan Breton is such an NYC private school kid, amirite?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 23:32 (nineteen years ago)

Alison Kelly has that weird accent! it's not a regional accent, it's the 20something girl trying to instantly become sophisticated accent

Malan is awful.

dar1a g (daria g), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 01:52 (nineteen years ago)

I think the German girl is probably pretty good, and the guy from LA with the hood on all the time..

dar1a g (daria g), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 01:58 (nineteen years ago)

creepy quasi minimalist guy = creepy! who is that? I hope he goes out, fast

i am so unbelievably stoked after watching that preview.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 03:42 (nineteen years ago)

I am convinced now that this will be the best season ever. So many of these people have ACTUALLY DONE STUFF.

creepy quasi minimalist guy = creepy! who is that? I hope he goes out, fast

You mean Bradley Baumkirchner? I really, really like him, to be honest. His interview (on the Bravo website) and Bio Video are both hilarious. He strikes me as very "I'm in a experimental noise band based in Williamsburg" though. Maybe it's the beard.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 06:01 (nineteen years ago)

when is this on and why arent i watching it?

sunny successor (katharine), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

it is on tonight! bravo! 10pm EST!

and this malan fellow. my jaw is hitting the floor.

who has this in a bio?

"Inspired by a friend, one of America's foremost couturiers,"

clearly, he is a renaissance man:

"Malan has also been a part of the entertainment industry since an early age, learning his craft from costume mistresses along the way. He has appeared in theatre, film, and television, worked as a professional model and has danced with Paula Abdul and others."

i hope he's the one they ask to leave.

molly d (mollyd), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

wtf, is this only on in the states? bravo here is showing something else tonight. wah.

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 13 July 2006 00:18 (nineteen years ago)

canadian bravo isnt the same as american bravo, it is on canadian bravo, but god knows when

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 13 July 2006 02:17 (nineteen years ago)

This was my first episode ever of PR (watched Top Chef all the way through though) and I have to say I loved it. I think Vincent (Victor?) has the makings of a dark horse for a little while although he clearly doesn't have the skills for the endgame. Judges made the right choice on the winner, but obnoxious LA guy should have gone home, or maybe I just don't like him at all. Still scratching my head over why the redhead's billowing drape of a dress made the winner's circle - she claims to be all about silhouettes - how can you have a silhouette in something that looks like a parachute? We loved Bradley from the preview and the ladies on the couch quickly ran to MySpace to add him, but he was kind of nonexistant in the episode and his comforter garment was kind of conceptually awful - as couchmate Melanie put it, who wants to feel like they're padded? Overall, great show, I'm hooked, lot of characters didn't make an impression but after Top Chef I have confidence they'll quickly come into focus...

Doctor Casino (Doctor Casino), Thursday, 13 July 2006 02:51 (nineteen years ago)

Bradley's dress was conceptually and visually awful. but yeah, he's cute.

Vincent should have gone! That hat! I totally hate Stacey for some reason so I was okay with her going, but still. I loved how pissed-off Vincent's model looked while he was fitting her. She had a total, "I guess I'll be leaving next week" look on her face.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Thursday, 13 July 2006 04:42 (nineteen years ago)

I think Vincent and the LA guy were both terrible and the worst overall, but they both have a history of success and talent. Stacey didn't, and her dress was completely boring, so they went with track record and marketability over a pure choice.

Malan Breton is the single best thing to happen to me in months. He's the bastard child of Alan Cumming and Bud Cort.

The architect lady is the baddest, awesomest lady ever. She's Manhattan in a good way.

Oh man why can't I just watch the whole season now.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 13 July 2006 05:31 (nineteen years ago)

when will this come to canada

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 13 July 2006 06:02 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, poly, we have found another level of disagreement, I hate that smug self-satisfied "I'm a hero because I have five kids" architect lady. Eff that, any Manhattanite with five kids deserves a dig-em smack. On the other hand, I didn't hate the jacket thing she made. (My wife, this morning: "It was just a jacket!" My daughter: "Oh, mom, stop hatin'.")

How is it that Michael from the ATL made an entire and completely credible dress out of coffee filters and no one was even like 'nice job' to him? thatsracist.jpg

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 13 July 2006 12:51 (nineteen years ago)

"How is it that Michael from the ATL made an entire and completely credible dress out of coffee filters and no one was even like 'nice job' to him? thatsracist.jpg"

I, too, was stunned by this.
And, I like crazy Vincent. He's so visibly freaking out all the time. He reminds me of many of my best friends. he's like Dave from Top Chef!

aimurchie (aimurchie), Thursday, 13 July 2006 13:09 (nineteen years ago)

creepy quasi minimalist guy didn't make the show, it seems, so no problems. I like Bradley OK, I have the feeling I don't have the same taste at all, but it's just taste.

Kayne is a treat! Angela is interesting too. I really liked Keith's dress and Ule's was my favorite this week. Looks like from the previews Keith will prob be the love-to-hate person who definitely makes it to fashion week but behaves rather badly on the way.. he seems really talented

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 13 July 2006 14:30 (nineteen years ago)

The architect lady is the baddest, awesomest lady ever. She's Manhattan in a good way.

I liked her too, but I wonder if she can break out of her style as the season progresses. She's one-note (and it's a good one) but I can't see her as a finalist.

Fsck Washing Ong's Hat (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 13 July 2006 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, poly, we have found another level of disagreement, I hate that smug self-satisfied "I'm a hero because I have five kids" architect lady.

I agree that she's way self-satisfied, but I think she's earned it. She has this Gloria Swanson-ness about her to which all drag queens strive, but none can achieve. And she's classy, has great taste, and is smart as hell. Fuck, I'd be egotistical. The best was when she said "Ohio! I've always wondered what goes on there." WHO SAYS THAT TO SOMEBODY?

Anyway, I find myself drawn to egotists. I would rather have a beer with the scruffy beard guy or with any of the younger girls, but they're not as good television.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 13 July 2006 16:06 (nineteen years ago)

"How is it that Michael from the ATL made an entire and completely credible dress out of coffee filters and no one was even like 'nice job' to him? thatsracist.jpg"

Wow, that was coffee filters? I had no idea.

I looooove that they roomed him with Malan. LOVE IT.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 13 July 2006 16:10 (nineteen years ago)

That photostory that the blonde from LA did of herself in her clothes was hilariously corny.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 13 July 2006 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

Yes it was. more lost little girls? how about we just get old, because lost little girls are boring. it reminded me of that rock singer from season 1 with the horrible "nervous breakdown" song where everyone had to figure out how to dress her up like a broken doll and still make it vaguely interesting when it wasn't

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 13 July 2006 16:24 (nineteen years ago)

The best was when she said "Ohio! I've always wondered what goes on there." WHO SAYS THAT TO SOMEBODY?

Lots of people have said similar things to me when I tell them I'm originally from Montana. I hate it when New Yawkers act like any place devoid of a mob must be devoid of excitement. That said, I either LOVE her or HATE her. Can't decide. She's definitely going to be great for lots of entertainingly snobbish comments.

I thought I would like rock-n-roll hooded designer, but I'm pinning my hopes of hate on him (I always find reality shows a lot more fun if I can seethe over someone).

Maria :D (Maria D.), Thursday, 13 July 2006 16:49 (nineteen years ago)

I got asshat vibes from Keith and Jeffrey. Arrogant.

Super Cub (Debito), Thursday, 13 July 2006 16:59 (nineteen years ago)

I kind of worked myself into an orgy of hatred of Jeffrey during the episode. For one thing, it at first seemed like he might not ever take off his hood. Also, his arrogance way out of proportion to the quality of his portfolio/first outfit. Keith also seems like a dick, but at least his dress was beautiful.

I looooove that they roomed him with Malan. LOVE IT.

ha, did you catch how Malan looked totally terrified during his initial conversation with Michael?

I just read Tim's Take, and he compliments Michael's coffee filter dress. He was surprised it didn't make the top three.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Thursday, 13 July 2006 17:16 (nineteen years ago)

I so thought Michael's dress would win. Folgers should commission him to make a filter line for their wacky ad campaign.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Thursday, 13 July 2006 17:40 (nineteen years ago)

Hoodie-boy should seriously reconsider those tattoos. Nothing says "please make me look like a penis!" more than tragic neck tattoos and tiny head.

Did architect lady have a big portrait of herself in her apartment?

The burning question for me is who does Tim Gunn ask to leave? I bet it's penis-head.

molly d (mollyd), Thursday, 13 July 2006 20:09 (nineteen years ago)

i'm glad keith ignored tim gunn's request to put more shit on his sheet-dress, and WON

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 13 July 2006 20:46 (nineteen years ago)

WHICH OF YOU FAB MOTHERFUCKERS IS TAPING THIS SHIT FOR ME

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 13 July 2006 21:12 (nineteen years ago)

keith's dress was great, but i mean all he did was take bedsheets which is just like a big ole piece of fabric anyway. did he even use anything else?

btw, robert is kinda sexy.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 13 July 2006 22:09 (nineteen years ago)

I think Robert's going to be a contender. His dress last night was adorable.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Thursday, 13 July 2006 22:43 (nineteen years ago)

(phil, Keith also used red buttons from a duvet cover, I think. the buttons were super-cute.)

horseshoe (horseshoe), Thursday, 13 July 2006 22:44 (nineteen years ago)

Michael's dress reminded me a lot of Chloe's ice skating costume from season 2, only not blue.

Best quote: "Where are you from?" "Oh...everywhere." (THEY MUST NOT LEARN THE SECRET OF MY FAKE ACCENT!)

Maria (Maria), Thursday, 13 July 2006 23:11 (nineteen years ago)

Apparently re-runs are being aired on ratings-desparate NBC on Monday? (so says TV Guide channel five minutes ago)

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Thursday, 13 July 2006 23:33 (nineteen years ago)

Anthony, email me if you really want a tape. The address below is correct, but with real letters.

C0L1N B... (C0L1N B...), Friday, 14 July 2006 04:30 (nineteen years ago)

keith's dress was great, but i mean all he did was take bedsheets which is just like a big ole piece of fabric anyway. did he even use anything else?

IMO, that's why he deserved to win - he didn't trip over himself trying to show how clever he could be using unlikely materials, he made the best possible dress given the circumstances. Which means, grab everything in the hotel room that's most like fabric and use it like fabric to make a quality garment. It was cute, and the buttons were great.

Doctor Casino (Doctor Casino), Friday, 14 July 2006 05:22 (nineteen years ago)

michael's coffee filter dress was the fuckin bizness

my money's on him consistently knocking out tim gunn and mike kors finding some way to keep him from winning any challenges

5 kids manhattan mom's house looked like a fuckin magazine shoot that had a mob of kids accidentally broke into.

and yes there was at least one GIANT portrait of her and possibly more??

metonymus prime (rgeary), Friday, 14 July 2006 05:54 (nineteen years ago)

kayne (west) seems like the dude who will hang around at #4 or 5 every time until he leaves his scissors in someone's back to snuggle into the top three

metonymus prime (rgeary), Friday, 14 July 2006 05:55 (nineteen years ago)

haha aimurchie otm on the top chef dave / vincent the crazy hat man connection. it's like a required archetype for these shows. dave totally had mad talent, if he could just convince himself to stop fucking up once in a while he'd have walked away with the thing

metonymus prime (rgeary), Friday, 14 July 2006 05:59 (nineteen years ago)

Anybody who hates that Jeffrey won because of his personality can go suck it for all time. BYAHHH.

SOME LOW END BRO (TOMBOT), Thursday, 19 October 2006 12:18 (nineteen years ago)

eh, jeffrey is a whiney bitch but he deserved to win.

i was actually kind of suprised at laura's collection. very nice.

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 19 October 2006 12:42 (nineteen years ago)

I thought I was going to hate everyone's collections after seeing the photos of them, but in motion they were all much better than I thought. Jeffrey is the most creative designer. It turns out that he really isn't so rock and roll in his designs and likes teh cuteness. I found some of Ulli's pieces strangely similar to Michael's. They both had a jungle space thing going on. I would rank the collections in order of creativity: Jeffrey, Ulli, Laura, Michael. I would rank the personalities: Michael, Laura, Ulli, Jeffrey. The clothes I actually liked the best: Laura, Ulli, Jeffrey, Michael.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 19 October 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

Haha the person who invented the mom challenge?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 19 October 2006 13:52 (nineteen years ago)

jeffrey was really quite diplomatic after the entire laura-you've-outsourced!-i'm-jealous! debacle. good for him.

i disliked him greatly at first, but his talent and sometimes spot-on observations won me over. i'm really happy he won.

molly d (mollyd), Thursday, 19 October 2006 13:57 (nineteen years ago)

OK notes from browsing the bravo.com Project Runway store, where you can apparently bid on all the clothes designed for the show:

1. In the "Jeffrey's Favorites" section, there is only one item: Autobiography of a Yogi.

2. Somebody paid $400 for the outfit that Kayne designed in the jetsetter challenge.

SOME LOW END BRO (TOMBOT), Thursday, 19 October 2006 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

3. The "Sex Drugs & Tim Gunn" t-shirt is only available as a babydoll.

SOME LOW END BRO (TOMBOT), Thursday, 19 October 2006 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

season 3 was a bore, all ego, no fun, no mccarolls or santinos or austins or dingbat guadalupe vidals or andraes to say funny things, the only thing even worth laughing at was vincent flipping out at the producer and even that was hidden away only to be excavated for the reunion thing. NEVER WATCHING THIS STUPID SHOW AGAIN UNLESS THEY PUT MORE CRAZIES AND WEIRDOS ON IT

YOU TOO TOP CHEF

ath (ath), Thursday, 19 October 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

"When you say "dickhead," do you mean that literally or figuratively?"

I meant both. I really wanted Michael to win, and it was sad to see him crash and burn under the weight of his own "nasty" collection. I mean, it's television, and obviously I am willingly being manipulated to love/hate certain characters. His sweetness throughout, and his talent (before the finale) made me really root for him.
I agree with the general consensus here: Uli, Jeffrey, Laura, Michael. In terms of the finale.
Anywhoo, television is meant to manipulate you, and provoke feelings about the characters you are viewing/engaging with. What I think is interesting, and hilarious, is what it provokes that the producers didn't expect. like, most of America wants Tim Gunn to be their father/boyfriend/best friend/confidante.
Who woulda thunk that the viewing public would fall deeply, madly in love with him?!
Mitigate, make it work, carry on!

aimurchie (aimurchie), Thursday, 19 October 2006 15:14 (nineteen years ago)

i liked the very end of the show, the clip of jeffery saying "if you dont' think michael was playing a role, then you didn't hear all the conversations about strippers and ass"

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 19 October 2006 17:15 (nineteen years ago)

hahaha

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 19 October 2006 17:31 (nineteen years ago)

"safari": I know he said it was the personal quest, his learning curve this season, etc., but also looked like he was trying to go with what the judges (Kors, at least?) saying sportsware was his basic strength. Not that it was literally sportsware, but based on that. But with little booby shield pad thingies, etc., eeeuhh. yeah, Uli's kinda fizzled out toward the end (that last blue thing was like my Grannie's shower curtain). But overall, they had me convinced she probably should've (was going to) win, based on judges' comments (and exclamations).

don (dow), Thursday, 19 October 2006 17:49 (nineteen years ago)

Doctor Casino for the win

SOME LOW END BRO (TOMBOT), Thursday, 19 October 2006 23:39 (nineteen years ago)

I really don't see what wanting X person to win has to do with calling other people dickheads (or cunts, for that matter), I don't get that about this thread.

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Friday, 20 October 2006 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

Vincent lists Hail to the Thief (and the Mars Volta) under his favorites.

Alley, I don't get what you mean. You're surprised that the contestants whom the viewers liked best are also the ones viewers want to see win, and conversely and consequently that viewers want their least-liked contestants to not win? Then again I have displayed a lack of perspicacity vis-a-vis reading the more idiosyncratic arguments on this thread, so ignore at your discretion.

I could see where Laura was coming from -- I didn't expect Jeffrey to come even close to the collection he showed, even from a design perspective.

What bugs me about the final announcement is that it has absolutely no fanfare attached to it, like it's barely any different from any regular judging. The music is the same, the set (dressing) is the same, the only thing that distinguishes it from any normal judging is the winner saying, "Are you kidding?"

c('°c) (Leee), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:02 (nineteen years ago)

I could see where Laura was coming from -- I didn't expect Jeffrey to come even close to the collection he showed, even from a design perspective.

Really? I figured Noize would win a few challenges ago. Michael was always a little hit and miss and Laura and Uli kept doing the same thing over and over.

Actually, now I think about it I dont think Laura questioned the designs were Jeffrey's, just the construction.

sunny successor (katharine), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:07 (nineteen years ago)

No, she made v clear it wasn't the design she was questioning.

I still find Jeffrey pretty.. grating, personality wise, but I agree with the judges & like I said before he did the best collection, then Uli.

just to be all I KNEW IT (I mean, early on before I went on a rant abt hating his taste and sense of color!)

I think the German girl is probably pretty good, and the guy from LA with the hood on all the time..

dar1a g (daria g), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:16 (nineteen years ago)

I really don't see what wanting X person to win has to do with calling other people dickheads (or cunts, for that matter), I don't get that about this thread.

It's a reality show.

Super Cub (Debito), Friday, 20 October 2006 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

Alley, I don't get what you mean. You're surprised that the contestants whom the viewers liked best are also the ones viewers want to see win, and conversely and consequently that viewers want their least-liked contestants to not win?

No, I'm saying that being in love with Michael really doesn't excuse your only contributions to the thread being calling Jeffrey a dickhead or wishing him harm. It seems straightforward, dude!! I'm not really a huge fan of Tom's liberal use of the word "cunt" to describe Angela and Laura, either. That is what I meant.

At what point did Jeffrey stop wearing that hoodie, btw? It was like melted into his skin or something from how much he sported that thing in the beginning but then it disappeared. I miss the hoodie.

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Friday, 20 October 2006 17:34 (nineteen years ago)

he does an interview on the site where he says he wore it early on to intimidate everyone and to be the mysterious asshole guy.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

My Top 5 pre-show:

1. Malan Breton
2. Alison Kelly
3. Kieth Michael
4. Vincent Liberetti
5. Kayne Gillaspie

Wow I was soo off. Oh well.. lol. I still think Alison was robbed, Keith would've made it to fashion week if he hadn't been DQ'd and Malan was kicked off too early.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Friday, 20 October 2006 17:40 (nineteen years ago)

Comparing the antagonistic contestants to genitals is just like sports fans, though (not that I'm excusing/condoning/whatever). Like, take Imperialist Yanquis fans vs. BoSUX fans.

I saw this last night, and it was just another makeover show.

I think it's great. It's much more likable than the unbearably catty "What Not To Wear." Tim and Veronica (at least pretend to) care about the women they help, whereas Stacy and Clinton treat everyone like walking joke fodder. Even my boyfriend (who doesn't watch PR and had no idea who TG was) was impressed by how sweet the show was. It actually gets too sappy when they bring out the "life stylist" though. That dude needs to go.

All that said, I don't think it's long for this world.

It really weirded me out when they gave the husband the new wedding ring. Like "Hi, you are too poor to get your wife a real wedding ring, so we did it for you, and btw you don't get to choose it, and also can we please show it on tv THANK YOU"

Haha, that was my boyfriend's reaction exactly. They were a super-adorable couple though. If anyone should receive expensive (albeit sorta humiliating) jewelry on television, it's them.

I anxiously await you, Nov. 14.

Anyone know who the new designers will be yet?

Some of the season 4 people are shown there. Also, apparently the official announcement of the date of the premiere will be tonight on top chef. Nov. 14 was not official.
