Trig Brother 2006 - July 22nd, London, Beer, starts 2 PM at the Chandos

Back once again, it's the lowlight of the London alcohol calendar, Trig Brother.

What is Trig Brother? It's a semi-competitive pub crawl, where a number of drinkers start out and are evicted - in the manner of TV's Big Brother - over the course of the crawl. Evicted drinkers take the long (actually not very long) walk and collect at a home pub, where the final tasks and final votes will take place. Expect twists and turns in the manner of the real BB (though perhaps with a bit less fannydangle than this year's).

Sounds a bit too competitive... It's not really, the whole thing lasts about 3 hours and the competitive element has a large element of randomness in it: contestants are judged on the 'tasks' they perform so it's not a popularity contest either (last time we did it someone nobody even knew before the game started came 2nd). There's not even a prize, it's just about having organised pub fun in London.

I'm not a big drinker... Again, it's not about competitive drinking or getting hammered - though some people will. We've had non-drinking players before and they've really enjoyed it.

What's this thread for then? This year's Trig Brother will start at 2PM on SATURDAY JULY 22nd - at the CHANDOS on St Martins Lane near Charing Cross station. Please tell us - via this thread - if you fancy playing this year (previous competitors are very welcome to have another tilt). And if you don't but want to spectate and maybe vote, this is to let you know what's happening.

Cheers!

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:00 (nineteen years ago)

God DAMN it, stop scheduling your events when I'm out of town!

Bah. I will never get to play.

Custard Subsidence (kate), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:03 (nineteen years ago)

I'm in.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:08 (nineteen years ago)

(I think Pete managed to rope Rob in on Monday as well, although I'm not sure how successful this was)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:09 (nineteen years ago)

I want in! I was going to Benicassim but unfortunately timed dental appointments mean that I will be here instead.

How do you win?

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:25 (nineteen years ago)

The last two or three go to the public vote in the eviction pub, I believe. Although last time we did this Cis came third after losing a game of ILX Top Trumps.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:26 (nineteen years ago)

How do I win?

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:30 (nineteen years ago)

Keep very quiet about Sonic Youth.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:33 (nineteen years ago)

the antics on this thread: Trig Brother / Geetafest / Freaky Trigger Club Picture Thread

is still my greatest personal achievement of all time.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:41 (nineteen years ago)

And the antics on this thread: Trig Brother 2004 Saturday 31 July

Still make me shiver to this day.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:43 (nineteen years ago)

this sounds tempting, but i am big wuss, so i'm unlikely to attend :(

teh_kit has 22 friends (g-kit), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:44 (nineteen years ago)

Attend as a spectator!

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:48 (nineteen years ago)

heh, i'm not a drinking wuss; i'm a meeting internet mentalists wuss.

teh_kit has 22 friends (g-kit), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:49 (nineteen years ago)

Humph, of course g-kit is going to the meet up that I cannot attend. :-(

Custard Subsidence (kate), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:54 (nineteen years ago)

Raa, I'll definitely come to this. I could perhaps join in too, I suppose...but only if everyone promised not to vote me out before the last five, cos that'd be really upsetting.

(Lea-style emotionally manipulative gameplan? Me? No no no...)

JimD (JimD), Thursday, 6 July 2006 11:23 (nineteen years ago)

Can I play in spirit, just so I can be the first person voted off? This is my goal in Trig Brother, of course.

Custard Subsidence (kate), Thursday, 6 July 2006 11:32 (nineteen years ago)

i can't come.

but one section of this game should happen in a pub with 2 bar rooms, obv. like this year's big brother.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 6 July 2006 11:33 (nineteen years ago)

maybe i should organise a 'truck brother' for truck go-ers

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 6 July 2006 11:33 (nineteen years ago)

Truck Brother? If I get voted off before Goldrush, I'm going home in a sulk. Humph!

Custard Subsidence (kate), Thursday, 6 July 2006 11:41 (nineteen years ago)

that's the spirit

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 6 July 2006 12:00 (nineteen years ago)

or should we do a version at truck

there are two pubs in steventon...

jellybean (jellybean), Thursday, 6 July 2006 12:02 (nineteen years ago)

or should we do a version at truck

that's what i meant, mainly

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 6 July 2006 12:04 (nineteen years ago)

yay!

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 7 July 2006 11:10 (nineteen years ago)

Have fun youse guys. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 7 July 2006 11:11 (nineteen years ago)

hehe, tracer, i keep forgetting you're back and then remembering again and going "whoop!" to myself :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 7 July 2006 11:56 (nineteen years ago)

I'm planning this tonight - more contestants wanted!

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 13 July 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

Shall I play or be Russell Brand. There's the question?

(Being Dermot is so last three years ago).

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 13 July 2006 15:11 (nineteen years ago)

I'd like to participate if I may!

Earwig oh! (Mark C), Thursday, 13 July 2006 15:13 (nineteen years ago)

shahbaz lasanga!

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 13 July 2006 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

I would probably actually fly down to London purely to witness Pete being Russell Brand.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 13 July 2006 15:24 (nineteen years ago)

Shahbaz Lasagne!

I think Pete should play.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 13 July 2006 15:27 (nineteen years ago)

(is that just so I don't fly down to London? I wasn't going to anyway, really)

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 13 July 2006 15:29 (nineteen years ago)

I shall talk about my ballbags incessantly, even though it is quite clear that on any anatomically correkt humang being there is just one ballbag, which contains THE BALLS.

I will make way for new contestants, and decide when we can see what the line up is like. It is quiet male so far so we need the ladies so they can get voted out early.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 13 July 2006 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry Pete - I already claimed being Russell, I've got the scarves and everything! You will have to play, or be Dermo!

Bhumibol Adulyadej (Lucretia My Reflection), Thursday, 13 July 2006 15:48 (nineteen years ago)

I think everyone should bring a cheap/hand made/whatever prize that the winner gets to take away with them. It'd really fuel the competition.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 13 July 2006 15:52 (nineteen years ago)

those who are away at truck should be able to do a public phone-in vote.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 13 July 2006 15:57 (nineteen years ago)

But I've got a ballbag!

Okay, I'm a playing then. That's decided.

What's the prize for the first person to have teh sechs live in Trig Brother?

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 13 July 2006 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

Ew, thanks, I could have done without that thought!

Thom Yorke Is My Spirit Guide (kate), Thursday, 13 July 2006 16:00 (nineteen years ago)

Surely its the first two people to have teh sex live in a Trig Brother? Unless this is the disturbing reappearance of Pete's Right Hand from Club SexistTrigger.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 13 July 2006 16:04 (nineteen years ago)

My right hand was made an honorary lady that night. But you can't get me with your gamesmanship ways DC.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 13 July 2006 21:56 (nineteen years ago)

oh dear god. my mom wants to come to this...

colette (a2lette), Sunday, 16 July 2006 10:52 (nineteen years ago)

I heard about this yesterday.

I don't like Big Brother, and am repulsed by references to it.

I think you should add my objection to the original list, at the top of the thread, because I would quite like to come, but feel unable to do so.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Sunday, 16 July 2006 11:34 (nineteen years ago)

You should come along and heckle, as I will be doing.

Marianna M wants to play.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Sunday, 16 July 2006 20:45 (nineteen years ago)

I read that as "Marissa M" for a second, and got rather excited.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 16 July 2006 20:48 (nineteen years ago)

I think Dom should play, and Swygart as well.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 16 July 2006 22:42 (nineteen years ago)

Heckling sounds good, as does deliberately walking off and generally being petulant.

I have heard tell that the sober people have to apologise to the bar staff for the drunk people. Is this true? I suppose no one knows.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Monday, 17 July 2006 06:27 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha, 'sober people'.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 17 July 2006 09:08 (nineteen years ago)

I think too many people are playing so I may just drop out and help the orgafun.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 17 July 2006 10:23 (nineteen years ago)

Bollocks, I can't come to this :(

steal compass, drive north, disappear (tissp), Monday, 17 July 2006 10:33 (nineteen years ago)

...because you are coming to Truck to lie on the grass and amuse the Shimuras ladies with your dirty dronerock tummy? ;-)

Thom Yorke Is My Spirit Guide (kate), Monday, 17 July 2006 10:34 (nineteen years ago)

Hurrah, thanks. And I don't even have to alter the alphabetical order!

Tom (Groke), Friday, 21 July 2006 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

(Actually it's THREE North Americans, I've realised.)

Tom (Groke), Friday, 21 July 2006 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

woo, i'm excited about (watching) this!

disclaimer: my mom is a very friendly person who can sometimes act a little bit crazy...please don't hold anything she says against me!

will spectators be coming to pubs with contestants this year?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 21 July 2006 20:28 (nineteen years ago)

Early doors yes, bus then there are special rules o'\course.

Anything can happen in the next Trig Brither.

Pete (Pete), Saturday, 22 July 2006 00:25 (nineteen years ago)

Blurry stills from my sordid internet sex tape hell are in todays' Daily Sport, if anyone's interested.

Earwig oh! (Mark C), Saturday, 22 July 2006 08:39 (nineteen years ago)

first out was bec, with an arbitrary nomination!

colette (a2lette), Saturday, 22 July 2006 13:35 (nineteen years ago)

next out is matt dc, for his answer to the question 'where is the love?'

colette (a2lette), Saturday, 22 July 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

apparently matt is out for 'umbrella incompetence' ! also, something about a mark s conspiracy...

colette (a2lette), Saturday, 22 July 2006 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

was his answer "right here baby"?

Porkpie (porkpie), Saturday, 22 July 2006 13:39 (nineteen years ago)

mark s had the golden ticket! he's now a contestant!

colette (a2lette), Saturday, 22 July 2006 13:47 (nineteen years ago)

Photos! Webcam!

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 22 July 2006 13:51 (nineteen years ago)

next out is al...three were nominated by bec. spectators back to home pub

toby (tsg20), Saturday, 22 July 2006 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

Marianna M won, by a landslide vote, beating late entrant Jel into second place. Kat Stevens came third, being the first person ever to be booed in Trig Brother, after successfully getting both her boyfriend and her sister evicted.

Bec was evicted first, although it was a fake eviction, so I suppose I was evicted first, after my umbrella broke and exploded in the Lyceum nearly blinding two fellow contestants. Although I wish I'd said "right here baby".

Everyone had an envelope with a popstar's name on it, with a themed secret mission. I chose Billie Piper, and my secret mission was to find out the favourite Doctor Who of a stranger in the Ship and Shovel - sadly I never made it that far.

There was a secret PUB NEXT DOOR, where I was sitting for a while in a tabloid press capacity (WE WILL NOT MENTION THE HEADLINES THAT CAME OUT EVER AGAIN!) The Lex was voted into the secret pub after completing his Secret Mission (convince two rival housemates that you think the new Keane album is a masterpiece). He then voted Traitor Hand into the main house despite Tracer actually conspiring against him in a way I can't quite remember. Anyway, he was evicted immediately upon entering the main house. Jel was later sent in, and Bec went back in.

Mark S won the Golden Ticket and was sent into the main house, although there were cries of "it's a fix!" Mostly from me. I did the best job of charming Colette's mum, who was evicted fourth.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 23 July 2006 08:22 (nineteen years ago)

Basically, it was orga-fannydangle of the highest order.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 23 July 2006 08:23 (nineteen years ago)

It was Magnus who came second.

The order of evictions:

First: Matt DC (not counting Bec's which was fake)
Second: Al
Third: Grace
Fourth: Colette's Mum (jt eviction with Grace)
Fifth: The Lex (evicted into secret pub)
Sixth: Jim (evicted by secret pubmates who had been spying on contestants) (this was very unjust)
Seventh: Rick
Eighth: Ewan (from the secret pub)
Ninth: Tracer
Tenth: The Lex AGAIN (booted out of secret pub before secret pubsters rejoined the main group)
Eleventh: Mark S (after failure in treasure hunt fiasco)
Twelfth: Jel
Thirteenth: Mark C
Fourteenth: Alex T
Fifteenth: Bec
Sixteenth: Kat
Seventeenth: Magnus
leaving Marianna as a worthy winner.

I later witnessed scenes involving Matt DC's housemate and The Lex which tested my tolerance to its limits.

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 23 July 2006 08:34 (nineteen years ago)

It was really well organised, an orgafun tour-de-force!!!

Photos!

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 23 July 2006 08:41 (nineteen years ago)

I later witnessed scenes involving Matt DC's housemate and The Lex which tested my tolerance to its limits.

Both of them are in the next room now.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 23 July 2006 08:49 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, having sat there with him for half an hour, I am no longer convinced The Lex can remember the events of last night. I suppose we'll find out when he sees this thread.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 23 July 2006 09:45 (nineteen years ago)

photos tomorrow

Konal Doddz (blueski), Sunday, 23 July 2006 09:46 (nineteen years ago)

Both of them are in the next room now.

!!! i look forward to colette's photos being uploaded. were there further scenes of depravity after we headed gothwards?

oh, if anyone i told about the tindersticks gig was too drunk to remember today, there are still quite a few tickets, in fact:

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 23 July 2006 10:42 (nineteen years ago)

Russell has arrived back in WOMANSING MANSIONS to find that broadband has been connected, and that the keyboard is already strangely sweaty. Upon confronting Gaffney, he blamed it on Walliams and his SAUCY theft of my ballbags. Apparently he claims they are an internet aprohdesiac. BUT WHEN I SAID it might be nice if saucy The Lex and saucy Rob might like to wrestle in the remains of Sam Smiths lager upstairs at the Chandos, he looked at me as if I were nothing better than a headline writer - THE SWINES!!

Russell has copious notes on yesterdays events.

COPIOUS.

Bhumibol Adulyadej (Lucretia My Reflection), Sunday, 23 July 2006 11:35 (nineteen years ago)

Hooray, fun fun fun! It was all ace, big thanks to davina and everyone at endelol.

With hindsight, I'm quite glad I got evicted the way I did, because it meant I got to leave the house whilst retaining the MORAL HIGHGROUND.

I really enjoyed my eviction interview too! I wish it'd been on the telly.

I'll never trust jel again though! Big fibber.

by the way, well done organisers. i can't believe all the twists and turns that were planned out (although it was VERY confusing to figure out what was going on as people trickled back to the home pub)

colette (a2lette), Sunday, 23 July 2006 19:58 (nineteen years ago)

none as saucy as the one above, but more photos here:

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 23 July 2006 20:22 (nineteen years ago)

Who is the guy in denim there?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Sunday, 23 July 2006 21:18 (nineteen years ago)

ARGH GOOD GRIEF MINE EYES! I might never recover from that picture. I thought Colette and Toby had gone by the time The Badness ensued, evidently I was wrong.

I should probably mention that as The Lex was incapable of moving from the pub of his own accord by the end, we literally had to drag him kicking and screaming home. To the extent that, at the bottom of the road, he ATTEMPTED TO RUN BACK TO HACKNEY FROM BLACKHEATH!

Andrew - the guy in the denim shirt is Patrick AKA Raw Patrick of ILM dance thread fame. A few of us had met him before, last time Gareth and I saw him he was being chucked out of The Key after Alan Braxe.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 23 July 2006 21:34 (nineteen years ago)

it's my fault. i told Rob that The Lex had interesting tastes.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Sunday, 23 July 2006 21:59 (nineteen years ago)

HIS FAVOURITE POP STARS ARE LOU REED AND IGGY POP! DO YOU SEE?????

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 23 July 2006 22:03 (nineteen years ago)

HAHA AND SONIC YOUTH!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 23 July 2006 22:03 (nineteen years ago)

Oh my.

hahaha!

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 24 July 2006 06:57 (nineteen years ago)

(btw pete - one thing which has been confusing me is the jukebox task in the secret pub. what did it mean? did i really break it?)

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 24 July 2006 06:58 (nineteen years ago)

Since we're allowed to discuss tasks now, can I ask Tom and Pete what purpose my Knowledge of Pop served? I assumed it would give me a D&D-style advantage in some capacity but even though I made it fairly deep into the competition it never seemed relevant.

Earwig oh! (Mark C), Monday, 24 July 2006 07:40 (nineteen years ago)

I saw papperazzi pics quite soon after the event, thanks to roving Konal Doddz.

Mark C lasted quite a while.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Monday, 24 July 2006 07:51 (nineteen years ago)

Longer than you expected eh Peej?

Also I never gave Starbar an exit interview - I'm sure this'll be portrayed as "furious TB slaphead storms out after eviction" or something.

Earwig oh! (Mark C), Monday, 24 July 2006 07:55 (nineteen years ago)

The jukebox task was padding as I was told they wouldn't be ready for another ten minutes. And yes, it appears you did actually break the jukebox (or to be more fair, it broke while you were using it.)

Those juker choices in full:
Jel (Chugger): Bat Out Of Hell - Meatloaf
Lex (Sascha): AM to PM - Christina Milian
Bec: Hardest Button To Button - White Stripes.

So if there was any winning of this task, you won it.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 24 July 2006 08:09 (nineteen years ago)

May I just note that, despite speculation that this year would see LJists wrest overall control of TB, Sinister still roolz?

I was very sorry to have to absent myself from this so early, but it seemed like an excellent TB to me. The Pub Next Door was a whole lot of fun.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 24 July 2006 08:15 (nineteen years ago)

Yes the "Kaiser Grief" headlines took the 'stormed out' view. We set them straight at the end of the evening but by then the damage to yr reputation had been done.

The Pop knowledge/Rock knowledge stuff was a complete red herring - we had to put some multi-paragraph stuff on the sheets that had no actual secret mission instructions, otherwise it would be a bit obvious to anyone glancing over a shoulder (not that anyone would, of course!) who had a task to do and who didn't.

I'm going to set up a page on FT for photos, headlines, exit interviews etc etc.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 24 July 2006 08:16 (nineteen years ago)

How did the Treaure hunt work, then?

Tim (Tim), Monday, 24 July 2006 08:37 (nineteen years ago)

Barely.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 24 July 2006 08:40 (nineteen years ago)

The instruction to be at the Ship And Shovell by 5:45 if all else fails was problematic due to the sheets being handed out at 5:46.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 24 July 2006 08:53 (nineteen years ago)

If you've got to the last eight of Trig Brother time travel should not be beyond you.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 24 July 2006 08:54 (nineteen years ago)

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 24 July 2006 14:01 (nineteen years ago)

(but notably not all)

i think some may be best left in the ether, don't you?
