emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 6 July 2006 11:42 (nineteen years ago)

Every year I mean to go, but every year it sells out before I'm even aware that tickets are on sale.

So hopefully I'll be in next year.

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Thursday, 6 July 2006 11:45 (nineteen years ago)

EMSK EXPLAIN YOUR ACRONYM!!!

I am mystified.

Custard Subsidence (kate), Thursday, 6 July 2006 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

well it's important to post the farmish type information on the map.

i remember last year they got annoyed with a bunch of photographers trying to taking arty pictures on the haybales...

jellybean (jellybean), Thursday, 6 July 2006 15:49 (nineteen years ago)

I've had to sell my ticket to a friend this year as I am far too skint. [insert sad emoticon here]

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 7 July 2006 16:54 (nineteen years ago)

It's this weekend! Yay! It's been too hot... the weather (depending on where you look) is a bit confusing

For Didcot http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=2937 (rain on sat)
For Abingdon http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=2939 (sun with cloud)
For Wantage http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=2938 (sun with cloud)

Steventon lies in between the 3...

jellybean (jellybean), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 10:45 (nineteen years ago)

I was told it would be cooler in the country!

Kaet (kate), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 10:50 (nineteen years ago)

bring on der sunshine
bring on der truck

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

The Organ and Seth Lakeman were both most excellent, though the former were a bit scary because they ALL LOOKED THE SAME! Also really enjoyed Shimura Curves, Half Rabbits and, completely unexpectedly, Hundred Reasons who were as good live as they are dull on record. The banana smoothies were ace, but the burgers were a shadow of their former selves.

Ben Dot (1977), Monday, 24 July 2006 13:27 (nineteen years ago)

Did you get caught in the rain? Was it as bad as I imagined it would be?

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Monday, 24 July 2006 13:58 (nineteen years ago)

The rain was horrible. My tent leaked, but luckily Emsk's Lovely Brother and his Lovely Girlfriend had a huge tent and they gave me a section of it. We sat in the large tent for about four hours, going slowly mad. We may have helped the onset of mentalism along, but the rain was the real reason.

Playing a festival set was great, even though I got "trapped in the LOL" (Amp phrasing for 'fit of the giggles) due to the awful dancing of one particular audience member and spluttered into the mic.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 24 July 2006 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

Of the tiny bit of the festival I was there for Seth Lakemen, Buck 65 and and the Schla La Las. I wnat to know more about the Organ, they didn't seem all there and apparently done a festival in Norway and Bennicassim already this weekend.

Also thanks to all who came along to the white horse and Rushall and stuff.

Ed (dali), Monday, 24 July 2006 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

due to the awful dancing of one particular audience member and spluttered into the mic.

Which ilxor was it?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Monday, 24 July 2006 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

the organ are superb. i don't think i was really all there for their set, it was near the end and i only had 2 or 3 more bits of work to do but i was still a bit frazzled and only managed to properly hear and watch 3 or 4 of their songs. what do you wanna know? i have their records if you like.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:11 (nineteen years ago)

Records good, the phone number of the guitar player or possibly the drummer good too.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:13 (nineteen years ago)

AAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

I am back! I am so brown! (I am also slightly sunburned, but I blame the White Horse for that.) I have freckles! We are rock!!!

I like sleeping under trees in fields with lots of cows around. It is ace. But only if you have a lovely giant SILVER MACHINE that blasts Hawkwind every time you put the key in it and FILTRES OUT ALL ANNOYING SOUNDS OF FOETUSES IN THE CAMPSITE NEXT DOOR. Hah!

Veggie burgers were great but they ran out too soon. Banana smoothies were ace, as were three bits of pineapple for a pound!

Aw, the rain wasn't so bad. I kinda liked the end of the world feeling of being in the tent with the wind howling and the rain battering us. And I really especially liked giving up and going to lie down in the van for a nap.

We sold loads of CDs. I was surprised by how popular we proved to be. But I still have a few left if anyone wants one.

Kaet (kate), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:21 (nineteen years ago)

Damn I should have asked for one yesterday.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:22 (nineteen years ago)

Oh! Bands I really liked included:

-The Early Years (big sheets of motorik shoegazing is just what you want first thing Sunday morning, oh yes)
-Thomas Truax
-Piney Gir
-Keyboard Choir (well, mainly their robot dancers)

but mainly I really liked sitting on the hill under our tree with a big smile on my face.

Kaet (kate), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:24 (nineteen years ago)

-The Early Years (big sheets of motorik shoegazing is just what you want first thing Sunday morning, oh yes)

and BRIAN ENO was there watching them! brian eno at truck! dude.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:25 (nineteen years ago)

i would like one please! (unless it is one of the ones i already have...)

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:25 (nineteen years ago)

also what happened to KEN? last time i saw him was sunday evening when we couldn't smuggle him into the bands' camping field. then i got a text later on and answered it but he never showed. ken, are you back? or are you still in a field in oxfordshire?

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:26 (nineteen years ago)

Eno?

*faints*

(Most people dream that their real parents are a king and queen and that they are a princess really - I dream that if my real dad wasn't my dad, then I would find out it was Brian Eno all along and go and live in an art gallery.)

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:28 (nineteen years ago)

Aw, I didn't see Brian Eno. I wish I'd managed to get one of the Early Years' singles.

No, Lex, it is new and exciting and very handmade and highly collectible and it has songs you don't have.

Ha ha, it was also really fun corrupting the stewards. Though what on earth did happen to Ken?

MMmmm, Ed turned up at just the right time with reinforcements of food and yummy hummus.

Kaet (kate), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:29 (nineteen years ago)

What's the tracklisting of the CD? I'm presuming its not the Mother - Castle - Stronger one I have from February. (xposT)
Mostly I'm just sitting here sort of amazed that Kate has finally become a Festival Person. Glasto next year then? ;)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:29 (nineteen years ago)

i did not see him but apparently he was wearing something bright green.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:29 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe you can turn up at his house and you can sleep on a hundred feather mattresses and and feel the XLR connector buried under them. to confirm your Enonessdom.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:31 (nineteen years ago)

heheh after we'd been there for 2 hours, kate was lying blissfully on a dessicated hummock of wabbit-dug grass in a pool of dappled shade and said "maybe i might get a tent..." and then the world did flip over entirely and land again with all the bits more or less in the right place, only slightly different.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:32 (nineteen years ago)

I spent £6 at that festival which I think must be some kind of record.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:33 (nineteen years ago)

No, I'm not doing any other festivals but Truck because it's small and manageable enough. And also because we got to camp in the posh field with the WATER PALACE TOILETS!!!

My god, how good were those toilets? Flushing! Running water! Wood detailing! MONET PRINTS ON THE WALLS!!!

I am certainly going again next year, even if they won't have us back (which I hope they will) - however, I will book early and bring a VW CAMPER VAN. I do not do tents. I had a moment of madness, but then the rain came and I came back to my senses.

And no, no, no, this is a brand new CD - it is a mix of some old songs and some new ones and even different versions of the 3-song ep you got in the spring.

Kaet (kate), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:34 (nineteen years ago)

hm, thinking about it, at reading last year i spent zero pounds and zero pence. i took a bottle of rum with me and drank that, and didn't eat anything. i was only there for the sunday though.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:35 (nineteen years ago)

hi emsk!! sorry about that!!! Just before I got your text back I set off to see if there was still a party in the main stage bits, but there were loads of security on the bridge! So i figured everything was closed by then (all there was left on the other side were just loads of people sitting around at the market(?) stage) and got back to my tent and that was when i got the text back, by that stage the gravitational pull of the pillow was too overwhelming to resist and i realised i was too tired to face that trek back out and pass those securities.

I should have texted you back at least though sorry! I was really zonked out though by that stage.

How was the backstage party??? Some dudes near my tent decided to have their own "party" by banging drums really loud and singing that Futureheads "oh oh oh oh oh" bit arrgh.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:40 (nineteen years ago)

There was no backstage party, really. We just sat on the grass and some annoying metalheads decided to play some BOOM TISH BOOM TISH bad jungle or whatevs really loud. Despite there being a big prohibition in all the things saying DO NOT PLAY SOUNDSYSTEMS OR LARGE MEN IN BOMBER JACKETS WILL COME OVER AND TURN THEM OFF.

So Gaz had the idea that we should just blast Hawkwind louder than them, so we got in the Silver Machine and did so, but then the security turned up and all was peaceful again. It was lovely.

We heard there was a volleyfootball game by the death metal barn.

Kaet (kate), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:43 (nineteen years ago)

i don't do tents either. if i ever find myself sleeping while not having a proper roof over my head, something will have gone very wrong with my life (eg nuclear war and am only survivor)

i would love a copy of the cd! i'll be at poptimism on sat - unless you're coming to the plan b pub thing on fri, kate...

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:43 (nineteen years ago)

I know nothing of this Plan B pub thing!

Though I don't know if I'm going to be in town at all this weekend. I desperately want to go to Norfolk but not sure I've got the money. :-(

Silver Machine Manor (kate), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:46 (nineteen years ago)

i think it's some sort of meet-the-new-team thing?

if we don't meet this weekend, hmm, i'm sure we'll bump into each other soon - just save a copy for me!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:49 (nineteen years ago)

(I think I would like a CD too if I'm allowed. I missed out on all / any previous ones through being lax and not asking.)

Wow, that sounds fun--I wish I could have gone..I'd love a cd too if there's any left!

g00blar (gooblar), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 10:53 (nineteen years ago)

If someone could slip me a CD before Poptimism you've got a guaranteed paly. I know its not Brazilian radio but...

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 10:59 (nineteen years ago)

Emma.. I'm amazed you kept that Truck crew t-shirt on all weekend!

It was ace to meet/randomly scare all of you this weekend. I think it might be my favourite Truck ever.

The two things I really loved about Truck this year
1) The lovely posh backstage loos.
2) The disco shed in the market field.. The BEST idea EVER!

jellybean (jellybean), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 11:57 (nineteen years ago)

god, yes, the loos. I'm just blogging about them now.

Silver Machine Manor (kate), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 11:59 (nineteen years ago)

did i smell?

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 12:08 (nineteen years ago)

We all did, this is the purpose of festivals, no one can notice the funk.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 12:08 (nineteen years ago)

Yes please to a CD as well. I won't be at Poptimism though :(

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 12:10 (nineteen years ago)

Jellybean, did I meet you? What's your real name?

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 12:14 (nineteen years ago)

I'm Jill.. you probably saw me wondering around/getting in everyone's way in a black crew t-shirt with my name on it.

jellybean (jellybean), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 12:19 (nineteen years ago)

Yes the weekend was amazing! The banana smoothies were wonderful! Thanks for rescuing my tent!

Haha, it was great to hear Sticky and Brown at last.

I was very impressed by The Organ even if their technical difficulties meant a detour to the Lounge for a while to see the considerably less impressive Seafood.

Battles were fantastic. so were 65 Days of Static.

I so want to steward again if they let me. Picking up litter with my solitary green latex glove and then *almost* shaking someone's hand with it before realising at the very last moment that prolly isn't a good idea!

I had to "deal with" a wasted person with no wristband. Hey maybe I could be Security! actually no, I am the least big and burly person EVAH and I don't possess a bomber jacket.

There must have been at least twenty ppl from my work there.

i will meet you by the men dressed as women stall!

OMG, they were EXTREMELY DISTURBING!

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

where was this stall????

i tried to find somewhere that sold those bouncy LED balls that seemed to be everywhere but couldn't see any

Aw Buck 65.

Wish I'd been there to see the Curves in all their glory. And Buck.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 07:23 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't seen him play in ages and his set was great. Probably the bets I've seen him do although that may just be hazy memories of the last time.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 07:26 (nineteen years ago)

that ken pic is marvellous.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 08:54 (nineteen years ago)

very impish

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 09:38 (nineteen years ago)

Ed, I clocked you at Buck65. His set was indeed great... an absolute highlight... that Spread 'Em track was hilarious. And then I found his old Square album the next day in a bargain bin.

The disco shed wins my RAH award for being consistently brilliant... every time I walked past it was jumpin'. And Futureheads win the MEH award for being just not good enough.

Archel, I'd love to meet up with you again sometime, although I guess you're not drinkin' in your condition (congratulations btw!). I guess the Robin Hood environmental quiz ran out of gaz?

angle of d... (tingo), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 09:53 (nineteen years ago)

Would I have clocked you, I have no idea what you look like. I was not exactly being unobtrusive.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 09:55 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, you do know what I look like, you just don't know who I am. Why, I think I may have even bought you a bottle of organic beer once.

You're never unobtrusive dude!

angle of d... (tingo), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 10:00 (nineteen years ago)

I am clearly rubbish.

I am loving working this EN471 + liberty print thing right now, I feel 16 again.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 10:03 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, unobtrusive is not a word I ever think of when describing you Ed... (Which is just as well considering yr cycling)

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 10:03 (nineteen years ago)

I heartily approve of the Liberty thing.

Angle, I thought I saw you in one of the tents, but lost you in the crowd.

The Committee To Keep Jazz Caged (kate), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 10:08 (nineteen years ago)

i saw angle of d! and talked to him and everything. on saturday nite and on sunday.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 10:11 (nineteen years ago)

Kate, you were standing right next to me at The Organ and I kept smiling at you... but you just looked a bit quizzical... emsk, it was great to see you... but I'm sorry I didn't get to say goodbye to you on Sunday or dance with you at the Trashy Indie Disco on sat nite... you didn't hang about in there for long, did you?

angle of d... (tingo), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 10:17 (nineteen years ago)

naw i didn't. i felt like wandering.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 10:19 (nineteen years ago)

I actually thought that might be you, Angle! But I didn't want to make a fule of myself running up to you and going "wait, I know you, don't I?"

I am too shy for mine own good sometimes. :-(

The Committee To Keep Jazz Caged (kate), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 10:30 (nineteen years ago)

I always am! Next time...

angle of d... (tingo), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

I always am!

Next time I'll say hello... ;-)

angle of d... (tingo), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

Hi angle! We should definitely go out for an... orange juice sometime. I don't know what happened with the Robin Hood quiz, we moved to the other side of town and never made it back over there. May quiz locally soon though...

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 27 July 2006 07:47 (nineteen years ago)

haha i look so HAPPY in that picture! (it's because i was!)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 27 July 2006 09:42 (nineteen years ago)

some may say 'merry' was the more accurate term.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 27 July 2006 09:42 (nineteen years ago)

there is a docu on this year's truck being shown at 12.45am thurs night/friday morning. yippee!

Oh that's odd. For some reason i thought you were scheduled to play in July. My apologies.

CharlieNo4, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 11:30 (eighteen years ago)

THEY WOULDN'T BOOK US IF THE SITE WERE ON FIRE AND WE HAD A HOSE. :-(

they kind of didn't need any more water in July, to be fair.

when i said "who's in" i meant, as a punter, by the way. i'm not playing there either, cheers.

ken c, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 12:04 (eighteen years ago)

I was making a joek. Maybe it would have been funnier if I had said "THEY WOULDN'T BOOK US IF THE SITE WERE UNDERWATER AND WE TOTALLY SUCKED!!!" but I thought the irony was funnier? I don't know. I don't understand this humour thing. Oh, I give up. :-(
