how important is interpretation/production in rock?

DOes a good song outweigh everything or is it all dependant on the "sound" , the production, the playing, the treatment?

well, I mean obviously the playing has to be competant - example - late seventies Genesis - bad image, bad singing, bad sound - but good songs I say
