I thought he died about 20 years ago!

Pity about his horrible Tory-lovin' sister tho

¡Vamos a matar, Dadaismus! (Dada), Friday, 7 July 2006 13:49 (nineteen years ago)

I just assumed he was dead...

RIP

RJG (RJG), Friday, 7 July 2006 13:51 (nineteen years ago)

maybe a bit of a random statement here but it's depressing to see a cretin like Gordon Ramsay receive an MBE this week while someone like Tom Weir went unrecognised. he did so much for the scottish countryside and culture as well as fighting in the second world war.

R.I.P.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 7 July 2006 13:51 (nineteen years ago)

What a guy. RIP!

scotstvo (scotstvo), Friday, 7 July 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

I think most of Molly's RIP thread was taken up with people wonderig whether or not Tom was dead too.

RIP :-(

(and jed_ OTM about lack of recognition)

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 7 July 2006 13:56 (nineteen years ago)

RIP Tom.
(I wonder if it was me on the molly thread wondering about Tom)

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 7 July 2006 15:26 (nineteen years ago)

RIP. I'm finally going to Shetland and Orkney this summer, and I've wanted to for years because of him.

beanz (beanz), Friday, 7 July 2006 15:42 (nineteen years ago)

RIP
Weirs Way was a brilliant programme from what seems like another age (even though it was still being made fairly recently) and (surely the one of the most important things in a travel programme) made you want to go to those places. I am going up to Oban next week and shall toast the man from some convenient viewpoint possibly Glen Lyon which was he favourite place in Scotland.

I think (but I may be mistaken) he did receive an MBE.

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Friday, 7 July 2006 17:28 (nineteen years ago)

Weir's way was perfect for drunken 3ams, back from the pub and at a loss for anything to do. Hearing about ambushes in some gully near Carnoustie during a Jacobite rising was always interesting and informative. RIP.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Friday, 7 July 2006 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

After extensive research I can confirm that he did receive an MBE.

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Friday, 7 July 2006 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

I would have sworn he'd been dead for 20 years.
RIP Tom.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 7 July 2006 17:40 (nineteen years ago)

i could only find one site that said he had an MBE & somehow i don't trust it. i hope he did though!

jed_ (jed), Friday, 7 July 2006 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

Weir's way made me buy boots and climb at least four hills. Which is something, considering I am bone idle.

stet (stet), Friday, 7 July 2006 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

Had no idea he was Molly Weir's brother...

KeefW (kmw), Friday, 7 July 2006 17:50 (nineteen years ago)

A long life doing and talking about things he loved and making other people love those things, too. That seems like fulfillment to me. RIP, Tom.

Ally C (Ally C), Friday, 7 July 2006 18:36 (nineteen years ago)

Aberfeldy have a tribute song. Lyrics, anyone?

Soukesian (Soukesian), Sunday, 9 July 2006 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

like everyone else, i thought he'd died years ago. mrs fiendish thought our entire obituary in the paper was a situationist joke.

RIP, weir.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 9 July 2006 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

rip :(
