yeah where's the push to cut down on rape and sexual abuse to begin with?

So disturbing. I did a lot of reading on Female Genital Mutilation in college and yikes - nightmares. This fits right in, sadly.

I read this first in a "news of the wacky"-tpe column and got so pissed, so fucking pissed because 1. it is patently awful and 2. it does not belong juxtaposed with 'guy creates world's biggest bubble pipe' or somesuch.

Interestingly though, if I may get all Momusian for a sec - apart from it being forced upon children, this isnt much different from women here getting breast implants for the opposite result (to attract sexual attention). It too is painful, and can end up mutilating the woman.

But it isnt forced onto kids, which I suppose is more the point perhaps.

perhaps?

This seems like shoddy reporting:
The practice is most common in the Christian and animist South of the country, rather than in the Muslim North and Far North provinces, where only 10 percent of women are affected.

So, is religious background causal? Or not? Who knows?

I think that is supposed to be a dig at the reading audience that falls into the set created by the intersection of the bigoted segment and the fundie Christian segment.
