emsk ( emsk), Monday, 10 July 2006 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

who wants to play? and when? i am suggesting next monday or tuesday - 17th or 18th.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 10 July 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

What is it with Hackney lately?

I'm boycotting Hackney as a horrible place that's hell to get home from and not going there again in the future.

If I Were Dreaming, There'd Be Rum (kate), Monday, 10 July 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

I might have my LED Boules by then.

I am in of course.

Ed (dali), Monday, 10 July 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

hackney rocks, kate. that is a) all there is to it and b) how come loads of us all live there. what did you have to do to get home? surely 242 or 149-liv st then 133 all the way home? it wasn't even that late!

ooh, BOULES! yes plizz! has been a few years since i played that. less running involved than the frisbee, too, for those not inclined to run.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 10 July 2006 13:52 (nineteen years ago)

weather forecast for next monday says SUNNY and tuesday says MOSTLY SUNNY. shall we go for monday? good way to start the week too.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 10 July 2006 13:56 (nineteen years ago)

I don't understand the appeal of London Fields - not enough bloody grass for my liking. Also, what's that weird gentrified street off to the side, where it's like someone's dropped a bit of Brighton into the middle of Hackney?

(Yes, I know this isn't the thread for hating on it. I'd happily do a similar thing in a nice big centralish park but it's too far for a weeknight for me).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 10 July 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

will one have to work in (h)ackney to attend this?

london fields is nice. and broadway market is teh lovely

ken c (ken c), Monday, 10 July 2006 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

I don't hate on London Fields at all. It's quite nice, and features pretty boys.

But I do agree that it's too far for a weeknight.

If I Were Dreaming, There'd Be Rum (kate), Monday, 10 July 2006 14:08 (nineteen years ago)

the whole point is that it isn't central! (but anyway london fields station is 7 mins from liverpool street, and trains go about every 15 minutes.)

not enough grass? like the grass is a bit crap and hasn't grown very well, or that too much of the park is taken up with paths and that attempt at a skatepark and those farmer and sheep statues and mosaic benches? i think the gentrified street is andrew's street.

nah you don't have to work, or live, in (h)ackney, you just have to be of the mindset to head over there of an evening for some funs and some drinks.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 10 July 2006 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

i think it's difficult to organise hackney afterworker in hyde park.

haha xpost!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 10 July 2006 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

OK, who's bringing what?

Shall I bring dead animal and coolbox with Ice?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

i will bring 2 frisbees. i also have a kite and a badminton set if anyone's interested in those. also a corkscrew. and something to drink. and fruits.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 12:56 (nineteen years ago)

I will try and bring other layabouts.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 13:00 (nineteen years ago)

can this be not on a monday, btw? tuesday would rule.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

and badminton rules, too

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

This is tipping into me realising that you're talking about OUTDOORS.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 13:53 (nineteen years ago)

i thought london fields would be a dead giveaway. or the bit about bikes, barbecue

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

um yeah... a frisbee game is a bit bigger than a cartwheel. and the consequences of attempting a genuine indoor barbecue would probably be fairly dire.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

this would be 2 minutes from my house. it would be rude not to come! i'm in.

matt stop hating on lovely lovely bourgeois broadway market. great places on broadway market: santa maria del buen ayre, an awesome argentinian restaurant which gives great aubergine; gossip, a café run by a wonderful polish lady called magdalena; l'eau a la bouche, a patisserie selling all manner of lovely treats.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

and the cheese. OH, the cheese...

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:34 (nineteen years ago)

YES YES YES!!

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:35 (nineteen years ago)

ahem

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

oh YES the cheese. my flatmate's boyfriend brought some back last weekend and i spent a very pleasant half hour nibbling on it.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

nb: there are also TENNIS COURTS in ldn fields, which are FREE!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

Hand, ypu and the lady up for a lounge around your prospective manor?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

whee! we can play badminton on them!

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

aw crap this does somewhat knock out my plans for a SARF booze-up because after this no one will be willing to drag down here i bet.

Ed - eggzackly! we've already tottered around it a little and i was offput by the brightonish street DC mentions - men wearing stylish cargo pants and carrying beautiful babies; olives for the price of caviar - but the lovely emma B and i quickly realized it's very self-contained and sealed-off - so all that stuff gets magnetically sopped up into it and the rest of the neighborhood is spared yay! (plus very good olives if you just HAPPEN to find yourself there MMM GGGAHH)

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

had your Swimmer fix recently Tracer?

and don't forget to swing by Clapton at some point.

Tracer Hand Fan Club Member #26503 (blueski), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:49 (nineteen years ago)

No no no no no, I would DEFINITELY be up for a SARF LONDON boozeup. It is the way forward.

How about in Brockwell Park?

Margarine Machine (kate), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

we could do SARF on tuesday. there is of course SARF on sunday too.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

(brockwell park has a LIDO guys, you are on to a good thing!)

xpost noooo let this one be the hackney one! we can do a sarf one another time! or there could be two simultaneously... (pls worldfap to rear its ugly hydrahead again, that is always fun)

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:59 (nineteen years ago)

Yes Monday is London fields as I have invited some camping mentalists.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

Brockwell Park also home to Lambeth County Show this weekend. there will be chip pan fire demonstrations and owls. http://www.ubiqueleisure.co.uk/lambeth.php

koogy wonderland (koogs), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 15:02 (nineteen years ago)

argh i don't think i can make it - i get back from porto late monday eve. :( DURN

yes koogs they are already cluttering everything up there - but will be gone by next week i believe?

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

and good free bike shit.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

Chip Pan Fire demonstrations. And owls.

Will wonders never cease? Maybe this is what I shall do on Saturday while trying to recover and prepare for Shimuras mentalism this weekend.

OH YES, THEY HAVE KNIGHTS!!! RAH!!!

Margarine Machine (kate), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 15:21 (nineteen years ago)

I strongly suspect the streets Tracer and Lex are talking about are one and the same.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

Oh they are - I bet it's better during the week.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

Well, I pointed out where my best friend in E8 lives the other night (close to Lex, by the delayed lido) and 'that street' has been evolving spendy-oliveward for the past decade. The stuccoed Brightony terrace street is off to the side and not the same place at all. If you like that sort of stuff the Victoria Park/Well Street Common area is for you.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 15:54 (nineteen years ago)

We could make it tuesday?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 19:44 (nineteen years ago)

yeah can it be tuesday? i'm glad i'm not the only one who can't do monday

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 20:45 (nineteen years ago)

and lex are you bringing a tennis racquet? i'll bring mine if you bring yours

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 20:46 (nineteen years ago)

i can bring a racket - i only live 2 mins away anyway. shall i book the courts for tuesday pm then? what time?

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 07:58 (nineteen years ago)

I am going to Brockwell Park for the county fair on Saturday afternoon. Any SARF LONDON takers?

Margarine Machine (kate), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 08:39 (nineteen years ago)

surely that's a different thread non?

yeah lex! i'll come and play regardless!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 08:48 (nineteen years ago)

after 6pm.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 08:50 (nineteen years ago)

So, Tuesday then?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 09:38 (nineteen years ago)

tuesday.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 09:49 (nineteen years ago)

We can watch the lex and ken bounce their balls.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 09:51 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, konki seemed special, but I only caught half the set and it took some time to tune in. I bought the CD to try and make up for my lateness, and it is charming and mysterious.

I enjoyed Burgalat so much partly because it was such a party in relation to what I expected from his records.

Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Thursday, 3 August 2006 10:29 (nineteen years ago)

hurrah, well done for buying the cd! i have been playing it to death for about a year and am still not sick of it. i couldn't stop watching the violin player playing her violin. i stopped hearing the songs as songs and started hearing them just as a succession individual pieces of sound, so precise, so sweet, so chilly. oh GOD i want to see them again :(

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 3 August 2006 10:33 (nineteen years ago)

The one I couldn't stop watching was la japonaise, not always for the most wholesome of reasons, I admit, but mainly because of the gently mannered Japanese element that she brought to a sound that otherwise came across as very French. I also love the way the japanese pronounce the French language.

Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Thursday, 3 August 2006 11:00 (nineteen years ago)

Roll call!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 09:57 (nineteen years ago)

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 07:40 (nineteen years ago)

haha Ed! great shot!

Tracer Hand, Monday, 16 April 2007 09:12 (nineteen years ago)

London Fields is a bit short on grass isn't it? I'd be more inclined to turn up if you were to do it in Victoria Park (which is not-entirely-coincidentally easier for me to get to and from).

Matt DC, Monday, 16 April 2007 10:36 (nineteen years ago)

We started on a lovely grassy bit, but threats of violence as our barrage of fluorescent softballs rained down on the punters drove us to the bare bit in the corner.

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 10:38 (nineteen years ago)

Oh dear I appeared to have made an almost identical post last summer as well. Plus ca change.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 April 2007 10:39 (nineteen years ago)

I am not opposed to victoria park.

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 10:39 (nineteen years ago)

how is Victoria Park easier for you Matt?

blueski, Monday, 16 April 2007 10:40 (nineteen years ago)

as Ed says we started in the verdant oval just behind pub on the park, otherwise known as "the arsey bit" to me, from now on, and could not sustain enough open space for safe play. so we moved to a dustier corner which turned out to be almost exactly in the shape of a baseball diamond! i think this may have been the historical origin of baseball's soft dirt infield - it's the one place in the park that people don't want to sit.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 16 April 2007 10:51 (nineteen years ago)

i actually enjoyed where we ended up! the dirt was dry and not really an issue at all. a small price to pay for being able to swing with impunity.

^@^, Monday, 16 April 2007 10:56 (nineteen years ago)

IT IS TIME! we can def do this in victoria park, and any other park, as long as it is one in hackney.

emsk, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:07 (nineteen years ago)

what about clissolds park?

ken c, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:17 (nineteen years ago)

thats not hackney!

600, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:18 (nineteen years ago)

it is!

emsk, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:20 (nineteen years ago)

here we go...

blueski, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:20 (nineteen years ago)

clissolds park is stoke newington
london fields is dalston

lex pretend, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:23 (nineteen years ago)

Victoria Park = closer to Tube and less far north. I know there are direct trains from Liverpool Street but having to get two trains and a Tube to get home from an evening in the park seems like unnecessary fannydangle.

Also Victoria Park is about a million times nicer than London Fields, if possibly slightly more full of murderers.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

clissold park is stoke newington of course.

oh, you mean hackney borough? oh in that case, fine...but you realise you have to give up victoria park in that case? you cant have it both ways

600, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

If we're getting down to neighbourhood level. London fields is not dalston. Dalston stops at the Queensbridge rd.

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

Lex you are the only person I've ever heard refer to London Fields as Dalston. It's Hackney proper*, so was that flat where we had the cocktail party.

I'd thought that bits of Victoria Park were in Hackney but it appears I'm wrong.

*Or maybe Clapham, arf.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:29 (nineteen years ago)

nah the best thing about sam's and my flat was that when we wanted to be trendy we could say we lived in dalston, when we wanted to be edgy we could say hackney, and when we wanted to be bourgeois london fields.

does that makes us sound like wankers? tee hee.

lex pretend, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:31 (nineteen years ago)

I think of Victoria Park as being part of the TOWN of Hackney. What do people who actually live around the park say?

blueski, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:33 (nineteen years ago)

im not sure about that ed. its only because kingsland has fallen out of use, that dalston has appeared to shift westwards. if shacklewell and kingsland are taken into consideration, and dalston doesnt extend beyond queensbridge rd, there isnt really anywhere for it to go! i think dalston can stretch as far as the western boundary of london fields

600, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:35 (nineteen years ago)

i think of victoria park as hackney (even though is out of the borough), but really its a boundary more than anything else isnt it

600, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:36 (nineteen years ago)

the South Homerton/Old Ford Afterworker just doesn't have the same ring to it.

blueski, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:46 (nineteen years ago)

funny, i've always described victoria park as being in bethnal green or mile end, depending on which of those places i was living in at the time!

also, this needs repeating: unnecessary fannydangle!

when are we talking, then? i'm definitely in, in theory.

CharlieNo4, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:50 (nineteen years ago)

Which evening this week would be most appropriate for all?

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 12:04 (nineteen years ago)

^^^

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

thursday.

emsk, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:27 (nineteen years ago)

has traditionally been for rehearsal but I will consult the Shimuras.

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

ok, friday.

emsk, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

Friday is very good.

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

DO NOT BE HUNGOVER FOR OUR GIG AGAIN!!!

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 09:35 (nineteen years ago)

I will be fresh as a daisy and full of vitamin D.

Ed, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 09:37 (nineteen years ago)

Did anyone ever decide which park it should be?

I probably still won't come as it is in HACKNEY but I'd like to know.

This Sunday is STREATHAM KITE DAY so if anyone feels like coming down south, you can fly a kite.

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 10:14 (nineteen years ago)

Ooh, I like the sound of that.

Ed, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 10:17 (nineteen years ago)

They are going to have STUNT KITE flyers.

I have never been to Streatham Kite Day before, as it's always the weekend of my birthday - so I'm glad they've moved it later this year. Streatham Common seems like a good hill to fly kites on, there aren't that many trees.

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 10:19 (nineteen years ago)

is there such a thing as necessary fannydangle?

ken c, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 10:33 (nineteen years ago)

Ask Galileo.

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 10:34 (nineteen years ago)

we stopped talking ever since he let me go.

ken c, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 12:44 (nineteen years ago)

Let's do this thing. It will get sunny and if it doesn't well, there is always the pub.

Ed, Friday, 20 April 2007 09:51 (nineteen years ago)

well? sun is on!

emsk, Friday, 20 April 2007 17:11 (nineteen years ago)
