FREE SLURPEES TODAY
i am about to head to my local 7-11 & get in on the action - will report back.
― mister would you please herp my brony (Pillbox), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 21:53 (thirteen years ago)
Am I the only person here to think that "slurpee" is a grotesque name?
nb: I do not address the acceptability of the product as a foodstuff, questionable as it is, but "slurpee" qua "slurpee", a word which must be said aloud in order to indicate one's desires to the cashier.
― Aimless, Wednesday, 11 July 2012 22:07 (thirteen years ago)
Competing with Starbucks, who roll out their fancy Slurpee today.
― Odd Spice (Eazy), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 22:08 (thirteen years ago)
slurpee is more appetizing a name than icee. who wants a carton of ice with some smug koala bear on it?
― Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 11 July 2012 22:23 (thirteen years ago)
no worse than the "sloche" version found at 7-11 equivalent Couche-Tard here in Quebec, the convenience store chain with the grossest ads:http://vimeo.com/39856633(a friend got one of these sloches the other day. it tastes like a glucose-superinfused version of the inside of a creamsicle)
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 22:27 (thirteen years ago)
surely the icee bear is of the 'polar' variety?
― (The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 22:30 (thirteen years ago)
that's even worse!
― Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 11 July 2012 22:38 (thirteen years ago)
will report back.

Slurpee's not that bad. I don't even mind the word “slurpee.” You know it's, it's “pee,” which is good. And a “slur” in front of it. SLUR-PEE. When you consider the other choices, “slurpee” is actually pretty refreshing.

if you'd rather wait in long-ass line for a free promotional slurpee than just stroll in on the other 364 days and throw down a $1.50, you could learn a few lessons on being an adult, imo

wait
their logo is literally "Couche-Tard (o_O)"
― I see you, Pineapple Teef (DJP), Thursday, 12 July 2012 19:25 (thirteen years ago)
the translation, if you're wondering about the name, translates to "up late". hence the night owl logo.
aptly named too, imho. last time i was in Montreal we drunkenly swung by a C-T and grabbed some pepperettes and cheese curds to snack on at 3am!
xpost

Pronouncing the d in couche-tard in the name of 10-year-old-boy humour is my god-given right as an anglophone
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:26 (thirteen years ago)
*my* god-given right as an anglophone is, apparently, to have been unaware i was not supposed to pronounced the "d" in the first place.

I always pronounce the d in couche-tard, and find the chain endlessly amusing when visiting quebec
even more entertaining was when they tried a hostile takeover of a local convenience store chain in iowa o_O
― hot sauce delivery device (mh), Monday, 16 July 2012 18:52 (thirteen years ago)
you don't ask the clerk for a slurpee you make it yourself and take it to the counter
