OK, so we all know about the obvious things, but what about some of the more obscure/less obvious things to do when holidaying in Manhattan?
Interesting museums? Oddities? Architecture? Cool stores?
Interested to hear your ideas, George x

you've had your instructions - stop answering:

threads are flying rampant around ILE because people aren't using the search function.

Bob Six (bobbysix), Thursday, 13 July 2006 13:46 (nineteen years ago)

it's hard to search for this effectively tho because of the shortness and commonness of the words.

GOTO VINIGAR HILL LOOK @ OLD ADMERALS HOUSE NOTICE HOW WEIRD EVERYTHING IS!!!

that is a crucial, though frightening look. all the homes were empty and silent. then mr. admiral's place looked like an upstate ny timothy leary research retreat.

fongoloid sangfroid (sanskrit), Friday, 14 July 2006 02:32 (nineteen years ago)

Where should one stay in Brooklyn?

milo z (mlp), Friday, 14 July 2006 02:38 (nineteen years ago)

Even more fun: do!

Bobby Ganush (Uri Frendimein), Friday, 14 July 2006 06:50 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, wait— they obviously have light sockets in NYC. Try sticking your dick in one. I've good heard things abot that... hey, Abbot! U.

Bobby Ganush (Uri Frendimein), Friday, 14 July 2006 07:02 (nineteen years ago)

six years pass...

Going to NYC in a few weeks. I need some suggestions from NYCers on a few SPECIFIC things.

I am looking for EROTIC THRILLER-ESQUE BARS (think 90's Lifetime movie set), and sex clubs. Or dance clubs that are very dark. Or lounges.

Any ideas?

homosexual II, Thursday, 11 April 2013 16:34 (thirteen years ago)

also kinda looking for 80's yuppie/wallstreet shit that is still 80's-ish. NOT UPDATED.

homosexual II, Thursday, 11 April 2013 19:34 (thirteen years ago)

Pope Rusty I (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 11 April 2013 19:47 (thirteen years ago)

80's yuppie/wallstreet shit that is still 80's-ish

never been there but Mr. Chow is still around. was like a big art/celeb/model hangout in the '80s.

http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/mr-chow/

... the dramatic sunken dining room—mirrors and black lacquer everywhere, like something out of Pacino's Scarface ...

dmr, Thursday, 11 April 2013 19:53 (thirteen years ago)

having trouble thinking of much that fits this. all the dance events I know about are at hole-in-the-wall rock club type venues nowadays. maybe something like Cielo? pretty funky decor in there but prob. not tacky enough for ya.

this place would have been perfect for EROTIC THRILLER-ESQUE BARS but it closed in 2007

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 18 September 2013 17:32 (twelve years ago)

Someone at work just asked me what would be a fun place for a 20-year-old cousin of hers from Italy who has never been to the city before (note, under 21) to go dancing. I have no fucking idea, help me ILX.

#fomo that's the motto (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 18 September 2013 18:04 (twelve years ago)
