is anybody but me watching this? the questions seem insanely simple. maybe they'll get harder in the second round.

also, am i crazy or do all the contestants seem to be wannabe stand up comics just trying to get a little screen time?

I hope so, or else I will be mad that I didn't try out for this. I could use that prize money!

twice as nice...

I almost tried out for this, but one of the guys who was gonna be on my team dropped out because he was getting married and needed time to plan his wedding. Lame.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 13 July 2006 13:37 (nineteen years ago)

i've been watching this religiously. most of the questions are easy, but they always throw a weird one out at the end of each category. also, half the drama is when there's only one person left defending their team's honor.

You're not crazy - the "we're SO ZANY" contestants are all uniformly awful. Extra disdain for eliminated contestants who scream "EEYEEAAHHH! >their team name

Fsck Washing Ong's Hat (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 13 July 2006 16:36 (nineteen years ago)

yeah. i wanted to punch that chick in the rainbow leggings and straw cowboy hat

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 13 July 2006 16:48 (nineteen years ago)

Anyway, fuck this show. It make IFC's "ultimate film geek" look like the Jeopardy All-Stars

one year passes...

Did anyone ever mention that the one of the guys on the winning team in Season 2 was ILX's own The Good Dr. Bill? I remember thinking that his name (Andrew Unterberger) sounded familiar when I was watching it, but mostly because I figured he was just one of the thousands of AMG-associated Unterbergers.

i am so trying out for this next year

latebloomer, Thursday, 30 August 2007 18:03 (eighteen years ago)

i didn't know that the fella was an ILXor but i am 99.9% positive i have had a class with him at some point

impudent harlot, Thursday, 30 August 2007 18:15 (eighteen years ago)

anyway if he's reading this: you guys were crazy good, big ups

impudent harlot, Thursday, 30 August 2007 18:16 (eighteen years ago)

Andrew blogs about his experience on VH1 here.

I briefly considered trying out for it, but if it's the sort of game show that dudes like Andrew (who pretty much live for pop-culture trivia) have to struggle through (even if he ultimately won), then there's not a chance in hell I'm qualified.

jaymc, Thursday, 30 August 2007 18:22 (eighteen years ago)

just wait out for that World Series of ILX Trivia tournament, bro.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 30 August 2007 20:11 (eighteen years ago)

I agree with jaymc: even if you like trivia more than the next man, to actually compete and win one of these things, especially in this day and age, seems to require too much extra study and effort to make it worth it. I think that Jeopardy guy Ken Jennings has a chapter or two in his book about this.

There's no way I could sit through two episodes of "Growing Pains".

considering how unknowledgeable some of the people who end up on the show seem it's certainly worth a shot!

latebloomer, Thursday, 30 August 2007 20:28 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know any Shaggy lyrics either.
