Ooh, he is the stalking horse, then, whoever he may be. Ed to thread immediately!

It's not a stalking horse, party rules won't allow that in any case. He'll stand against Gordon Brown once Blair steps down, according to the BBC now.

it'd be funny as fuck if he got it, mind.

x-post: orly? in that case he's just a knob. give up now, mate, save yourself the bother.

Oh OK. Terminology fuckup here. Anyone think Blair will get the busies on his doorstep over the other ting?

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 13 July 2006 15:42 (nineteen years ago)

He used to be Ken Livingstone's bagman back in the day of the GLC.

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 13 July 2006 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

I bet Blairite MPs are rubbing their hands with glee right now because now there's going to be no coronation, it's no longer inconceivable that they could throw their own candidate into the mix.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 13 July 2006 15:48 (nineteen years ago)

Well, we'll see how far the £4? row goes - if it ensnares a lot of Blairites that might be an issue.

Gordon will defeat McDonnell relatively easily, so he'll be able to say he has a mandate from the party. A weak challenger is definitely in his interests. But... what if McDonnell gets near a third of the votes?

Put a tenner on Alan Johnson to be next PM.

It'd be better if it was Alan Simpson.
