I realised not so long ago that I am completely and hopelessly addicted to arguments. I can't stop. I love the thrill of intellectual MORTAL KOMBAT, especially when it's on local Romford boards where they can't win, heh heh heh. Does anyone else feel this way? Should we start a support group for stroppy bastards or something?

I like arguing with particular people who I really love, or for the sake of contrarianism in a dull self-satisfied community. But I often avoid arguments with dull internet mentalists or arguments where rhetoric completely takes over any real intellectual headway.

first exposure to internet proper back in the day when i were science teacher, kept reading USENET posts from creationists. they were utterly pointless to argue with, cos you'd make all these points then they'd say "i don't believe that" or just stop posting. maddening.

I was reminded of the ultimate futility/unwinability of some arguments by the Mugabe apologist on Radio 5 this morning. Him arguing with Peter Hitchens was quite a funny scene.
