I Bet...

I've been challenged by AL (LC's bloke) to sit down and listen to some of his music for a change, cos he reckons it's too 'heavy' for me, despite my protestations that I own 'heavier' stuff than he does - he has never sat down and listened to Merzbow whereas here I am, at 5 past 10 on a Thursday night listening to 'Arise' by Sepultura. Hmm. So, what's the weirdest or most out of character thing you've ever done for a bet, dare or other challenge?

New challenging answers!

DG, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You own Merzbow record = you are GOTH!

RickyT, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't think DG will last Arise - it's a brutal powerful experience.

DJ Martian, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I thought it was rather weedy actually.

DG, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

AL sounds like he only likes his noise with riffs. Wimp.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Arise was a revelation to me as a 12 year old. the thrust of it, the lack of melody in the vocal, the entire THE APOCALYPSE IS HERE *NOW* IN THE SLUMS OF SAO PAULO foreboding schtick.

of course i was 12. the only alternatives were the Shamen, take that and post-Bruce Iron Maiden.

Wyndham Earl, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

AL likes that sort of thing cos he's a guitarist, I'm not a guitarist however and find it very very boring.

DG, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

DG Ask Al as he heard VOIVOD - Dimension Hatross ! one of the metal albums of alltime, released in 1988.

DJ Martian, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sepultura are great! I have a live video!

jel, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I always thought of Sepultura when I was in the shower at my last house. Nothing pervy, see, it's just I always imagined Max Cavalera barking the instructions for adjusting the shower head...

<-- Remove | Refit -->

(This will probably not amuse anyone else nearly as much as it amused me. Look, you've got to find an entertaining side to wading through inch-deep cold water on the floor from the previous showers of the day to reach the bath, finding it still contains more cold water which is dirty from other people's feet and won't wash away, having yet more coldish water drip over you too slowly to be able to wash with it while you stand there staring at mould-encrusted walls, and knowing that when you finish the entire house will be too cold and damp to let you dry. And that if the light's on then you're silhouetted for the whole of the college next door to see. Shudder.)

(Also Andreas Kisser has a great name, which is all the better for sounding like the Finnish for "cat". Finnish, cats and loud guitars... it could hardly get any better.)

harmaakissa, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'll ask him DJM but I should think he knows Voivod already.

DG, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Good old Sepultura.

How come nobody ever says "I think you should listen to some of my music cos I reckon it's too light for you". That's what you should say to AL and make him listen to HMS Pinafore.

Tom, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Fuck HMS Pinafore, listen to the soundtrack to Cats, that's like wicked weak.

Ally, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Weaker than even that: All Kinds Of Everything by Dana.

RickyT, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Fucking hell yes Cats, that's hardcore flimsy, he wouldn't be able to take that. James Galway too, he's only for the featheriest of listeners.

Tom, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I made him a tape not so long ago and was going to put some Belle & Sebastian on fer a giggle but thought it wasn't worth it, I could guess his reaction.

DG, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

YOu want lightweight? Like seriously? I mean, Cats is sad and shit. If you want lightweight, you wanna be listening to Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat.

GIIIIIIIVE MEEE MY COLORED COAT...

Ally, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The Gentle Waves vs James Galway: FITE! (with arse scarf and arran sweater)

RickyT, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pippin is lightweight! (and i love it - it's good - joseph is awful)

Maria, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

In a class above the rest, it even went well with his vest!

Robin Carmody, Thursday, 31 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

but RickyT what is an "arse scarf"??

katie, Friday, 1 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ho ho is it time for the Legend of Isobels Headscarf to spread further into the interweb community?

(I'm not doing it though)

Sarah, Friday, 1 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)
