There were rumors that the big event in the video game year, the E3 conference, had been cancelled but it's actually changing forms as a much smaller event.
This is really insane for me! honestly like the last 7 yrs of my Mays have been defined by E3! sounds like it's going to be a lot different now for video game, much smaller less flashy conference.....
...bad news for fans and smaller websites, I imagine, lots of people are going to be really pissed off, and I totally sympathize, but this honestly - for me - sounds like it's going to be a lot more managable, E3 had gotten so bloated and out of control.
Anyway, here's an interview I did w/the head of the Entertainment Software Association (which puts on E3) head Doug Lowenstein...
(btw, I got a cold call about this at like 5:00 pm yesterday and had to do the interview on the fly, so my questions are phrased a big...inelegantly...please forgive)....

And frankly the booth babe crap was just that.yep...honestly, I had sort of been thinking of writing an editorial on "booth babes" and why I think it's a big factor in why games aren't considered art...people in games complain about that all the time, but then when we showcase our "art" we treat it like a f-ing car show....no big E3=hella unemployed booth babes in LA during May.

This sounds like an improvement really, for the likes of me (ie fanboys who sit at home online during e3 week, drooling over shit footage from show floor handheld cameras). Presumably it'll mean more proper announcements, and less 100 word dribs and drabs of vague info.
