"Unrated Version" C or D

I've got two DVDs like this, "Badder Santa" and "40 Year Old Virgin." They're both among my favorite comedies, so I thought basically 'more of a good thing can't be a bad thing.' Trouble is, although the added material is pretty funny, it messes with the pacing. It's also maybe just a touch weaker than the material that was kept in for the theatrical release. Any movies that are improved by the extended treatment? The only ones I can think of are the LOTR series, and that's basically because the epic scale was such an attractive part of them that upping the epicness played to their strengths.

Well, JFK is an Oliver Stone movie, which is three strikes against it to start with, IMO. Never seen it, not likely to happen.

I'd rather hang myself than watch a Peter Jackson Director's Cut.

JFK is awesome

Is True Romance good? I don't remember ever seeing a Tony Scott movie made pre-Enemy of the State.

Well, it's a Tarantino script, so depending on your opinion of him...
What's different on the unrated version? And on The Warriors?

'true romance' practically sets a template for half the films he made post-'93.

In 2005, Paramount and director Hill released the "ultimate director's cut," which runs less than a minute longer, but casts the film in a new light. Hill adds a prologue about Greek soldiers, and turns some of the transitions into comic book frames -- highlighting two of the film's original inspirations.

the unrated 'tr' has some more violence, maybe a longer hotel room scene with gary oldman and samuel l. jackson.

Wow. That's fucked up.

i would seem to have that "ultimate director's cut" of the warriors: the added bits are cool and do indeed recontextualise the movie a bit.

true romance is great, easily one of tarantino's best scripts, i think. i haven't seen the "unrated version" though. I don't usually bother with them; I did hear badder santa was worse.

If Dead Alive/Braindead counts, that's classic. Never seen Dead Alive though as Braindead was the only released version in the UK.

(I.e. Dead Alive apparently has all the best bits of Braindead taken out)
