Watching TV Online

I'm wanting to be able to watch ESPN as the football season kicks off in the US. Unfortunately, I'm an Australian and the sport is not widely followed out here. Due to us being in a rental property, cable or satellite is out, so I'm stuck with the internet.

Anyone know of a vaguely *reputable* way (ie. no bittorrent) of watching NFL games over from overseas, over the internet, without giving my money to scammers, russians or having the FBI on my butt? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

you can't buy it from espn?

Yeah, they've got the video section, but I'd really like to be able to watch live games. The '360' service they provide might do that, but I'm not in the US, so I can't access one of the cable ISPs that are required.

They (ESPN) probably have a contract with one of the Australian cable networks to provide the content exclusively to that network for the Australian market. Thus, to sell it to you any other way would be in violation of that contract. You're probably going to come away from this endeavour empty handed.

quite possibly, but considering how many services they offer (in the US, at least) - phone scores, magazine, etc. - it seems possible they'd have some sort of internet deal.

The solution is clear -- Mike just needs to come home like all good Americans. (Er, wait.)

I think it might be possible using p2p streaming, which isn't a technology I've ever tried myself. Think the software is Windows only. Do a search on p2p streaming espn.

two years pass...

I def don't want to be one of those ppl who are like "OH, WELL I ONLY WATCH TV ONLINE"

But it's getting pretty easy to watch all the shows I like on the internet. When should I take the plunge and stop paying the obscene amount of money that my cable company charges?

eleven months pass...

So, I don't have cable in my apartment, and so far I haven't missed it - all the shows I like I can watch online.
But, since I don't have the option to just play white noise all day, I tend to go through tv series instead (arrested development, futurama, daily show every day if that counts).
Anyone know of a good tv series I can watch online for free (and where I can find it)? I seem to be at a lull point and could really use a good show to get into for summer..
