Strawberries. Beer. It shouldn't work. It does, at least for myself, although I'm sure there are those who beg to differ. The liquor of Elysium or the run-off of Beelzebub's cesspit?

Not a fan of sweetness in beer. For fruit beer, I'm a fan of the sour Drij Founteinen Oude Kriek.

Fruli = Classic!

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 7 August 2006 06:29 (nineteen years ago)

I like it altho the apple one makes you think you should just stick with a cider.

tastes nice but there's some chemical in it which makes my throat get v tight, i always end up nauseous.

Yum. Super yum. The only thing better than pink wine - pink beer.

It's great for up to two pints, but it gets a bit ick after that.

JimD (JimD), Monday, 7 August 2006 09:30 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I can't imagine getting drunked on it.

It's the next step above Leffe on the 'expensive but admittedly nicer' scale. Anything with even greater vicarious joy, don't hesitate to inform me...

Fruli presumably isn't designed for 'binge-drinking' or having more than a couple of in one night anyway (seems true of Belgian drinking culture generally?). Good thing too considering the price of it in pubs (as with all imported Belgian beers).

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 7 August 2006 10:36 (nineteen years ago)

It's really not meant for drinking in pints. This is what we don't get with belgian beers most are designed for quaffing in 25cl glasses and each beer has it's own flavour enhancing glassware.

Ed (dali), Monday, 7 August 2006 10:38 (nineteen years ago)

I had it in its own flavour enhancing glass the other night, but it was quite a chiz for how much it cost for how little there was. Plus, it just tasted of the bottle it came in.

You can't actually get Fruli in a pint glass anywhere anyway can you? The Albany have it on tap but served in tall narrower glasses. The Swimmer does it in bottles only. I think the Southwark Tavern may have the strawberry one on draft (or may be a different type) and that MAY have come in a pint but can't remember.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 7 August 2006 10:47 (nineteen years ago)

I've definitely had it in pints, in Notting Hell.

So have I, possibly in the same pub :O whilst visiting friends. Round where I live (Lewisham) you're lucky if the pub has Kronenbourg :(

Louis Jagger (Haberdager), Monday, 7 August 2006 10:50 (nineteen years ago)

I was going to say, that pub where we had it definitely served it in normal pint glasses.

the barley mow in curtain road serves it in pint glasses.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 7 August 2006 12:38 (nineteen years ago)

I've had pints in the Spitz too.

JimD (JimD), Monday, 7 August 2006 12:41 (nineteen years ago)

Some pub I forget the name of near Ealing Broadway tube served pints of it too, so it's probably some sort of area status thing.

Louis Jagger (Haberdager), Monday, 7 August 2006 12:43 (nineteen years ago)

i now feel sufficiently chastised.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 7 August 2006 12:44 (nineteen years ago)

I'd put it in smaller glasses if only because I imagine it's best cold. Or no? To my mind, sweet beers/ciders turn cloying & gross as they warm.

Laurel (Laurel), Monday, 7 August 2006 12:46 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, it's got to be cold. When it is it's practically the most refreshing drink imaginable; three weeks ago during our heatwave it probably saved my life that day in Ealing.
