Bluefish!

It's bluefish season! My favorite fish. Lately I've just been coating the fillets with soy sauce and olive oil and running them under the broiler until they're crispy brown on the outside—about ten minutes or so. Serve with lime.
My husband doesn't like it. Too oily, too fishy, whatever.
I don't understand how anyone could hate bluefish. Smoked bluefish!!!!! Smoked bluefish pate!!!!
Fierce carnivorous fish that would eat you if you didn't eat it first. What could be better! I'm eating it RIGHT NOW!!!!

I've never tried bluefish (possibly due to being landlocked). I'm kind of afraid of the carnivorous fish aspect, but otherwise it sounds enjoyable.

Actually, now I'm hungry. All your fault!

I also grew up by Long Island Sound, and every summer the bluefish would come in and drive the bunker into the tidal areas, where they would go hypoxic and wash ashore in huge, huge numbers. The stench was vile.

I miss very few things about coastal living, but bluefish is probly one of them. The ultimate grilling fish, so greasy they don't really need any extra oil added--but everyone does anyway. One neighbor slathered the exterior of the fish in Hellman's mayo prior to grilling. That dark meat is seriously gamey though! And holy crap, mind your fingers bringing one aboard.

You're not supposed to eat the really dark parts. PCBs? Yum!

And holy crap, mind your fingers bringing one aboard.

my brother's thumb had to be half sewn back after a clumsily rushed attempt to pull out the lure on one of these dudes.

Collardio Gelatinous (collardio), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 03:33 (nineteen years ago)

and it was rushed because there was a feeding frenzy on, obviously.

Collardio Gelatinous (collardio), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 03:34 (nineteen years ago)

So eating that fish would have been a revenge meal. Was it eaten cold?

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 11:14 (nineteen years ago)

No. We were too busy running, trying to keep up with the school.

we had some earlier this summer grilled and coated with a marinade of lime and coarse-grain mustard. delish!

Some are sad.
And some are glad.
And some are very, very bad.

Abbott, Thursday, 2 August 2007 17:15 (eighteen years ago)

When I wish to make a wish
I wave my hand with a big swish swish.
Then I say, "I wish for fish!"
And I get fish right on my dish.

kenan, Thursday, 2 August 2007 17:17 (eighteen years ago)
