Is there a good program for changing file extensions quickly and pref organising files in general

My JVC video camera is great but it saves all its files as .mod files. I had a real headache trying to play them on my computer until I realised that if I change the extension to .mpg the files play fine. Obviously this takes ages to do if I have multiple video files and it just puts me off. Is there a quicker way to do it rather than Windows Explorer -> and Rename File to each individual clip?

Also, is there something similar that I can use to organise my mp3 files? As in, something that can maybe look up an "unknown" Mp3 album and find out what the tracks are called from Gracenote or something, similar to what happens when you put an audio cd in your player and the tracks come up? I also want to be able to edit file names quickly without having to click on each file (like a tab-down function or something)?

Open a command prompt, go to the folder where your files by typing

cd "c:\folder\otherfolder\folderwheremyfilesare\"

and then type

ren *.mod *.mpg

Which will rename anything.mod to anything.mpg

Musicbrainz is the best mp3 auto-tagging solution I've seen.

just associate .mod files with the same thing your .mpg files are associated with.

that doesn't work. windows media player refuses to play files with a .mod ending but will play if it's a .mpg. I'll try StanM's method though. Thanks for your help everyone. Any other good file-organising tools around?

Don't use WMP then - get VLC player, that will play just about anything.

There's a program called "Extension Changer" ...

I've been using it for years, never had any problems. Would highly recommend it - does exactly what it says on the tin!
