Anyone else totally hooked?

I'm trying to watch this but the first episode is rather terrible. Anyone have any idea if I should keep pressing on?

Oh gosh, je l'aime! Je l'adore! I absolutely LOVE this. Saw two or was it three seasons of this. Terrific. I love the red heared (?) lawyer. ROWR. I would urge you to try a few eps. I am absolutely in love with the french language and also these type of shows so.... I don't know. Just give it a try. :-)

It's taken four years to get a reply to this thread! I wasn't aware there'd been a further two series. Is the delightfully dishevelled Laure still in it?
― Daniel Giraffe, Thursday, 28 July 2011 20:53 (fourteen years ago)
The third one was on BBC4 earlier this year. Laure was more dishevelled than ever! And the red headed defence lawyer Karlsson so so so hot!

There should be a new series next year. I think it's going to focus on a controversial investigation into an anarchist collective. Quite a few of the storylines are adapted from real life.

Daniel, sorry, I only recently watched the three seasons. :-) I love all the characters. I love the portrayal of the judicial (?) system. Really fantastic.

Just finished season III and liked it more than the second but not as much as the first. The fact that whole thing is so damned credible is what makes it shocking and tense.
On a pedantic note I was shocked that the BBC's translator called the motorbike cop Teddy Bear at the start of the third season but by about episode 8 or 9 he'd become Nounours! I am a translator myself (and a professional pedant) but this is quite a blunder.
One other great thing about it was the amount of top slang you pick up. A lock-in is "un after", for example.

just found this interview with Caroline Proust (who plays Capitaine Berthaud): http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/2011/may/03/meet-spirals-feminist-anti-hero?INTCMP=SRCH

Debated whether it was best to post here or the Netflix suggestions thread, went with here - have any Netflix folks had a look at Braquo? Sort of post-Spiral French cop show, 3 series so far with the first 2 on Netflix. It feels like the deliberately darker! grittier! edgier! spin on Spiral with everything ramped up to 11 all the time, and can definitely be kind of ridiculous, but I'm still finding myself bashing through multiple episodes back-to-back.

To be clear though it's nowhere near as good as Spiral which at its best I think is fantastic (although the latest series perhaps wasn't the strongest).

is it on Netflix now? I've heard good things about it.

Braquo Seasons 1 & 2 are on UK Netflix, dunno about US Netflix. For Spiral, weirdly only Season 4 seems to be up on there at moment - I'm sure 1-5 were all on at some point.

on season 7 of Spiral now. It continues to be very high quality. complicated but not absurdly twisty plots, really fantastic interpersonal relationships which change in a very realistic manner over time, vv likable characters despite their occasional fuckups, self-defeating behavior, frequent prickly personae, the sense that many of them are barely holding on to their sanity, and the fact that they probably rarely shower. really strong cast overall, almost an ensemble, but Caroline Proust does have the main role and she slays it.
