surely if their intent is to "test the limits of western freedom of expression" the best reaction is "who fucking cares?" So, DOES anyone care? I haven't seen any reports of embassies being vandalized or massive street demonstrations or whatever...

yeh that was the idea. oddly the ideal outcome is that the Iranians may actually discover that free speech = learning not to give that much of a shit when people say stupid/offensive things

right - to me the saddest thing about the Iranian stream of Holocaust denial is that its the rather obvious outgrowth of two unfortunate European colonialist mistakes earlier in the 20th century - the influx of Nazi propaganda/influence prior to and during WWII in the wake of other European powers' absence in the area, and the British fuckup in Palestine and subsequent creation of the Israeli state. Put the two together - voila, rabid antisemitism where before there was none.

There's plenty of conscious-and-subconscious anti-Arab racism as well, mind. Until we all eventually interbreed into one super-race (this will never happen) then racism will be a fact, and it will be hereditary. Racist parents mean that the child will almost certainly be prejudiced as well. There's no way of damming the torrent, there really isn't.
