Today's was a Czech-made kerosene lantern,
two large tiki tumblers,
a red cross first aid ref guide,
a copy of "Oregon for the Curious" (printed 1972)
and hardcover reprinting of 3 mystery novels (printed 1959 from "The Detective Book Club")

What'd you get?

kingfish trapped under ice (kingfish 2.0), Saturday, 19 August 2006 17:05 (nineteen years ago)

today's haul, rather

kingfish trapped under ice (kingfish 2.0), Saturday, 19 August 2006 17:05 (nineteen years ago)

A set of five Faberge eggs, each with a fine lattice-work of 24-carat gold, encrusted with alternating rubies and sapphires, and with each one decorated with the face of a different Walt Disney character - Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy and Goofy - in cloisonne. Originally created for the princess Anastasia. I got them for $2 apiece because they had some cracks and chips.

Aimless (Aimless), Saturday, 19 August 2006 18:25 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, and a big jar full of assorted screws, nuts and bolts for $5.

Aimless (Aimless), Saturday, 19 August 2006 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

Which, if anything like my big jar of assorted screws, nuts and bolts, you'll be able to bequeath to your grandkids.

I got a push mower for ten bucks, and two used tires for another ten, a locally made wool jacket for five and a salmon colored retro 50s radio for seven, but that was last week. Didn't get to a sale today.

jim wentworth (wench), Sunday, 20 August 2006 01:46 (nineteen years ago)

I am envious of your radio! We've been laying off the yard sales because the last few ones we went to were SO depressing, but this thread makes me want to jump back into the crap-accumulation game. We have too much junk already, but that's no reason not to get more!

Garage sale!

admrl, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:26 (eighteen years ago)

Anyone in the SFBA need a bookcase or a computer desk or a dresser or some crutches or contemporary women's fiction?

admrl, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:27 (eighteen years ago)

L@@K

admrl, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:28 (eighteen years ago)

Had to prevent myself from stopping by them this weekend, as I was broke and even looking is enticement to danger.

Still, my yard sale lava lamp collection remains at two, and this is unacceptable.

kingfish, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:36 (eighteen years ago)

Someone please take the giant stuffed giraffe that lives in my house. I hate that thing.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:38 (eighteen years ago)

ooh, that sounds like something I would like...but my wife says no more stuffed toys, adam.

admrl, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:39 (eighteen years ago)

People who go to garage sales...what methods should I use to tempt folks like you to come and buy my stuff?

admrl, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:42 (eighteen years ago)

I would like any Madchester 12"s please.

Steve Shasta, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:43 (eighteen years ago)

admrl, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:44 (eighteen years ago)

admrl, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:44 (eighteen years ago)

admrl, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:44 (eighteen years ago)

I have The Birthday Party's Bad Seed EP on 12".

admrl, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:45 (eighteen years ago)

hmm. list furniture, what subgenre of paperback books you have, if you have plenty of garage-sale-acquired goodies that need to be relocated to a new home, records, etc.

oh, and free lemonade.

kingfish, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:46 (eighteen years ago)

hmmm, ok.

What about cookies?

admrl, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:48 (eighteen years ago)

cookies would be acceptable.

kingfish, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:49 (eighteen years ago)

cookie crumb trails

gabbneb, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:49 (eighteen years ago)

What is the most universally accepted kind of cookie? like not something that will turn people away

admrl, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:49 (eighteen years ago)

chocolate chip

strgn, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:52 (eighteen years ago)

Do people eat cookies in warm weather though? weekend forecast for Berkeley is highs around 70.

admrl, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:55 (eighteen years ago)

WAHT? That's not so hot, unless you mean Celsius, in which case good luck staying alive. Cookies are totally okay in the 70s.

Abbott, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

If you are really concerned, you could always cut up a delicious chilled watermelon.

Abbott, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

Not hot, warm.

admrl, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:58 (eighteen years ago)

I am not really concerned.

admrl, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:58 (eighteen years ago)

I am going to the kite festival on Sunday.

Steve Shasta, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:59 (eighteen years ago)

where is it? did you see Os Mutantes?

admrl, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 21:00 (eighteen years ago)

Last time I had a garage sale, it was in front of my apartment building in a relatively yuppied-out area of town. A man was walking by with his kids and one of them said, "Daddy, look at all that garbage." That was an ill omen.

The main people who came by were people who read myspace bulletins I'd posted about it, who picked up most of the choice items such as an espresso machine, lamps, old VHSs of seasons of South Park (actually, I was surprised they sold), some records and a coat. Nothing else got picked up.

I think, in part, its because we had a pile of '70s Playboys for sale, which I actually thought would get scooped up quick, but to the contrary I think they scared a number of passersby away.

Abbott, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 21:01 (eighteen years ago)

That sort of reminds me of a story about when my dad took me to the doctor when I was an infant and I saw another (ugly) baby sitting across the way and I shouted "look daddy, PIGGY!".

admrl, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 21:03 (eighteen years ago)

Turns out my friend is having her garage sale this weekend, so i'll probably stop by and watch it for a bit, before falling asleep on the garage-sale-porch-chair, her pug asleep atop me and drooling.

kingfish, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

Someone saw our ad and is offering to buy ALL of our books, sight unseen, for 25 cents each. I say yes.

admrl, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 22:06 (eighteen years ago)

Great!

I mean, uh... you should take them up on that.

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 22:10 (eighteen years ago)

They were going to be a dollar each and go to goodwill if not sold. Everything worth anything I've already sold on Amazon Marketplace.

admrl, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 22:16 (eighteen years ago)

Dudes, this is going well. We've had people buying stuff up already because of our CL ad and the sale hasn't even started yet!

admrl, Thursday, 19 July 2007 18:30 (eighteen years ago)

I recommend you do this if you are thinking about getting rid of some old tat.

admrl, Thursday, 19 July 2007 18:30 (eighteen years ago)

Two dudes come over last night to pick up a bookshelf and one of them was SO high he couldn't really talk. The back of the shelving fell out while they were lifting it into their truck so I gave them half their money back. Berkeley.

admrl, Friday, 20 July 2007 22:45 (eighteen years ago)

OMG cleaned OUT

(It only took an hour)

admrl, Saturday, 21 July 2007 18:08 (eighteen years ago)
