They're so off the wall they're on the floor.

captain reverend gandalf jesus (nickalicious), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 18:36 (nineteen years ago)

In order to best help you, we will need to know:

A) what kind of floor is this going on?
B) what else is in the room? Color scheme? Etc.
3) how absorbant of Chinaman urine are these rugs?

captain reverend gandalf jesus (nickalicious), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 18:39 (nineteen years ago)

#4 and/or #8 appeal to me. Is this for a hallway runner? They look narrow.

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 18:41 (nineteen years ago)

jaq otm, tho i dunno how i feel about the idea of faux-wide ruins (8). 1 might be ok too.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 18:41 (nineteen years ago)

Good questions all, but independent of other considerations, my choice is the last one, #9.

#6 is both ornate and primitive looking, so it gets my vote.

Get #6 and invent a game that uses it as a gameboard.

Danny Aioli (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 18:46 (nineteen years ago)

I like 6 and 9.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 19:03 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe 6 a bit more than 9, because the colors are better. It's got that orange next to the green.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 19:06 (nineteen years ago)

2 - hypnotic, repetitive patterns are good for when you're stoned, not good for when you're drunk and have the spins. Or any other time.

4 - way too busy

6 - looks like a cheap Navajo knockoff

8 - It's not pretty, but I kind of like the mexican-blanket parallel lines quality.

They're all ugly, but nine is the least-bad.

milo z (mlp), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 19:11 (nineteen years ago)

3,4,5, or 9 depending on the décor of the room.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 19:13 (nineteen years ago)

#7 is perfect for 'ancient alien civilizations colonized Earth' theorists.

milo z (mlp), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 19:17 (nineteen years ago)

I like the big green zigzag on the border of #2. If only the center didn't bring on epileptic seizure.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 19:24 (nineteen years ago)

I still like #6, but I wish it didn't have those wrenches.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 19:26 (nineteen years ago)

I like 6 and 9.

I'd heard that about you. </ImprovNight>

#4 and #8 seem like the nicest ones to me.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 19:27 (nineteen years ago)

I like #4 best, but mainly because I can unfocus my eyes on it and it goes from the most busy to the least busy. But I wish the colors were richer.

Danny Aioli (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 19:31 (nineteen years ago)

First favorite: 7
Second favorite: 3

They're graphic and not trying to be nice Persian-style rugs that go in a "tasteful" sort of Ethan Allen-y living room. I like their character.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 19:32 (nineteen years ago)

The decor will be Mediterranean with lots of texture & wood. The kitchen (making up one side of the room) will be modern. Walls will be light blue and white. Floor will be medium colored oak.
I will ask the dealer about Chinaman urine absorbency.
I personally liked #2 the best and am a little disoriented after seeing everyone put it on the bottom of their list.
#9 is the most expensive since I made the mistake of saying "Wow!" when the dealer laid it out.

Bnad (Bnad), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 19:38 (nineteen years ago)

6 - looks like a cheap Navajo knockoff

8 - It's not pretty, but I kind of like the mexican-blanket parallel lines quality

8 is more 'navajo' than 6 (three gray hills?)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

With #4, the decor/room colors won't matter (whatever predominates will bring that color out from the rug) and the busy-ness will disappear and just reflect texture - with the bolder/simpler patterns, the big blots of color will stay obvious. Also, stains/wear tend to show up more on the less busy ones. The faux-Navajo ones grate on me, maybe because of overexposure when living in Phoenix.

#2 made me think "Pac-man!". Two Gray Hills rugs are always a natural palette and generally have the traditional ojo/diamond patterns.

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 19:43 (nineteen years ago)

4 is the least jangly, it's true, but if you like #2 the best, Bnad, you should just get it! To hell with the rest of us!

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 19:53 (nineteen years ago)

I have a long history of atrocious decorating taste or more simply decorating ineptitude. What if I end up hating #2 after two months? What if visitors tease me or whisper about my rug behind my back?

Bnad (Bnad), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 20:00 (nineteen years ago)

i was hoping this was a markelby thred

gear (gear), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 20:01 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not sure I understand your description of the decor, but as far as I do, it actually seems like 3 or 7 might fit in best.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 20:06 (nineteen years ago)

get 4, the rest will make it like you live in a tipi or something and are going to tell stories and call yourself running wolf but maybe that's what you want

nazi bikini (harbl), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 20:08 (nineteen years ago)

Also, the very center of #4 represents a nexus point between our worlds.

captain reverend gandalf jesus (nickalicious), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 20:15 (nineteen years ago)

4, 6, or 9.

I coveted this Pottery Barn kilim, but I dragged my feet and now the larger ones are not available.

4 or 8

Zora (Zora), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 20:59 (nineteen years ago)

I've just realised my mum has 4, or something very close. It looks good on her wooden floors.

chap who would dare to start Raaatpackin (chap), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 21:01 (nineteen years ago)

My parents have a couple of rugs that are kind of like 4, too -- but a little more err...glossy and new. They need to get most of the pile worn off before they'll be really interesting, and frankly the floral-y intricate daintyness of them is almost offensive. Now, I can tell that 4 is actually geometric and not floral at all, but I just find the pattern...unassuming. Unassertive. "Goes with your furniture and makes a good background." Which I guess is sometimes what you want in a rug! But taken with the other options above it seems like you're looking for something more striking in its own right.

2 is kind of crazy in a good way!

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 21:40 (nineteen years ago)

i bet this thread isn't even about rugs at all. it's psychology, it's a test. like, if you like rugh #5, you have ADHD; if #2, OCD; if #7, agoraphobia. it is possible.

my first 'i like that' reaction was #9. i do not know what this means.

Scourage (Haberdager), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 22:08 (nineteen years ago)

I hope this isn't the case, because if it were my ignoring of the question and posting a rug with lots of guns on it wouldn't paint me in the most positive light.

chap who would dare to start Raaatpackin (chap), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 22:09 (nineteen years ago)

#1 reminds me of a rug my parents had when I was a child.
