I hate the new yahoo

I know, you get what you pay for, but I got MORE for my $0.00 before! You could click on "compose" from the home page, which you can't anymore. Also, the regular news items still open, but the feature ones that they have in little boxes DON'T. I NEVER FOUND OUT WHY PARAMOUNT CUT ALL TIES WITH TOM CRUISE!!!!!!!!!!!
Plus, I could do without the hyperactive "loading" thing that happens when you click on "mail."
Longstanding grievance: the home page says that you have 4 new emails. You click on that and get to the "welcome" page that tells you, guess what, you have 4 new emails! I know, more opportunities for mortgage ads etc. But still. Grrr.

This is the thread where we look gift horses in the mouth.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Friday, 25 August 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

they really should change their crap logo. brand recognition, schrmand recognition (see also Google).

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 25 August 2006 13:24 (nineteen years ago)

But google changes their logo on every holiday! Including the fake ones!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 25 August 2006 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

actually the interesting thing about the most successful American sites from design pov e.g. google, yahoo, ebay, amazon - they all have terrible amateurish logos that haven't changed since site birth.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 25 August 2006 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

Well, if they recognize that people childishly resent changes, why did they change everything BUT the stupid logo?
Another change I hate—the new look of National Geographic Magazine. The whole thing looks like a travel brochure, now. Just because your awesome Quark or InDesign skills let you do something new doesn't mean it's a good idea to do it, especially with a magazine whose readership LOVES its stodginess.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Friday, 25 August 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

National Geographic is a gift horse because I steal it from doctor's waiting rooms.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Friday, 25 August 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

Beth, the featured articles still open. You have to click em a second time. The first time is just a teaser. Hey, here's the former yahoo girl to console ya a bit.

We need to harness Beth's irritation as a new energy source. She could power a small village lately. This is fascinating to me and not at all repellant. Go, Beth! Chew on their ears!

Aimless (Aimless), Saturday, 26 August 2006 02:20 (nineteen years ago)

I am more splenetic than most, though, I must confess. Even at other times of year.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Saturday, 26 August 2006 12:42 (nineteen years ago)

Thank you! I would board a plane for Africa right away, but the airport security people look askance at passengers who foam at the mouth.
Back to Yahoo grievances: even though ads are bad, I kinda miss that mortgage ad with the really elongated, pulsating dachshund.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Saturday, 26 August 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, everyone I know is foaming at the mouth right now. It's August on the Vineyard. We get like that. I'm in Cambridge right now, though. Had to take a break before I kilt somebody.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Saturday, 26 August 2006 13:46 (nineteen years ago)

i read ilx so infrequently.
but i am always guaranteed that the active threads will be topped with (at least) one complaint thread from beth parker.

nein Socken (nein Socken), Saturday, 26 August 2006 17:31 (nineteen years ago)

Nothing but affirmations from this moment on. The new Yahoo is FINE!!!!!
Who care what Paramount's reasons were for cutting all ties with Cruise, that whacked Scientologist fuck. I myself have nothing to do with him.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Sunday, 27 August 2006 01:01 (nineteen years ago)

Beth, don't ever change, especially for someone who reads ILX so infrequently.

Bitch about something. What do you think about aphids? Land planarians? Tourists stepping into flower beds to get a better photo?

Danny Aioli (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 27 August 2006 01:04 (nineteen years ago)

What are land planarians? Levelers of mountains? Flat-Earth Society members?Actually, aren't planarians a primitive slug-like animal?

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Sunday, 27 August 2006 01:08 (nineteen years ago)

Ah! Flatworms! Did you ever hear about that study where they trained flatworms to navigate a simple T maze to get a treat, then ground them up and fed them to other flatworms, who could then navigate the maze without even taking the class!

Disgusting little shovelheaded motherfuckers. We had these in our back yard in '04 and '05, but I haven't seen any this year. They, uh, remind me of the new Yahoo. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Danny Aioli (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 27 August 2006 01:11 (nineteen years ago)

If they come back, grind them up and eat them! You'll be able to navigate the maze of FAFSA.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Sunday, 27 August 2006 01:17 (nineteen years ago)

Right now there are tons of great photos on Yahoo!'s front page, the best being

one year passes...

yahoo is totally ripping us off!

What is Yahoo! Answers?

Yahoo! Answers, a new Yahoo! community, is a question and answer exchange where the world gathers to share what they know...and make each other's day. People can ask questions on any topic, and help others out by answering their questions.

one year passes...

Opened mail in my browser today and it's been totally redesigned. Gmaily as all hell, but so far surprisingly nice!

sktsh, Tuesday, 8 October 2013 19:14 (twelve years ago)

Yeah looks good to me too.

Groups has also been redesigned, has more of a Google Groups feel now with threaded conversations. Some ppl in my groups are complaining but I quite like it.

my father will guide me up the stairs to bed (anagram), Wednesday, 9 October 2013 08:05 (twelve years ago)

i finally worked out how to make the Groups look normalish again today, redesign is a total failure of usability imo
